I adore their debut, but it's definitely rough around the edges. Their improvement over the years is incredible, with Agnosie being their peak.

Revisited this, and maybe THIS is the peak after all lol.
Such a brilliantly paced album. Those closing minutes are a gut-punch. Even without knowing the language, the instrumental tones and the vocal delivery sell it; you know exactly what's going down narratively. You can FEEL IT.

The Hirsch fanbase here is small but we're a dedicated bunch.

YES, absolutely
Lyrically speaking this is an album about a long distance relationship failing and just not working out. The voice message at the end of Datorie is a real one from Nils' gf back then and she allowed him to use it. It breaks my heart every time

Are you serious? I thought it was just a movie sample or something this whole time.

Wow. That's a bold creative choice. I'm surprised they allowed it to be used.

I hope this is all valid, because I know this second hand. Nils wrote a book about this phase of the band and someone I chatted with about this band said this. I just have on the information. Yes, it is pretty bold. The Holon albums are about this time in Nils' life and that's why they're somehow connected thematically, even though Hiberno and Anamnesis might be closer to eachother musically. Agnosie was supposed to be the forst non Holon album, but they realized it somehow still is one.
Yea, that my little history lesson lol

I think the would-be heavier moments lack a little punch to really bring them home. I do like some of the arty orchestral bits and whatever the hell happened in Mara tho (album standout)
idk, decent art rock album / average mathcore = somewhere in the middle?

So a 4.5, agreed.

I think it would help out a bit to not view this in the lens of mathcore, it's more of a prog metal/post-hardcore effort all told. Not something necessarily trying to be heavy, more of a long, winding journey as the emotions of a relationship flucuate.
