that much is true, but imho trusting rock/metal mainstream critics isn't much of a justification for what you're saying, their opinions are usually far more biased than the average user on websites like this or rym.
People in the metal community just tend to be very conservative and reluctant to admit their precious riffs can be turned into something else entirely with enough creativity and artistic vision and that's why they hate on bands like deafheaven for not being traditional
not that deafheaven theirselves do much good and/or are breaking much new ground with albums like sunbather or new bermuda, i'm just speaking in general

moreover the "trolling" as you call it gets especially bad in this case because the band is appreciated by music listeners who have nothing to do with metal

you mean hipsters

No you're totally right there in every regard. Music critics tend to be hit or miss but this is one of the band's I personally tend to agree with, with no bias. Also I listen to many types of metal, ranging from many different kinds so I'm not that conservative.

Honestly I think this band rules and have no idea where all the negative criticism comes from

also all the people i know that listen to this band religiously don't listen to other bm like ever
not kvlt at all, it's almost bm for non-bm fans I don't follow it

i've said it somewhere in the sunbather thread but theyre dull because their music is all catharsis without any buildup to make it effective

I kinda like that idea of full catharsis but I'm still waiting for them to execute it right

I honestly love that idea too. Sunbather just makes me feel awesome with the exception of Vertigo.

Also, I wouldn't say I listen to bm as religiously as prog or post rock, but I definitely heard and still listen to my fair share and still appreciate Deafheaven for what they are.

I think calling people who don't listen to metal exclusively but enjoy Deafheaven "hipsters" is ludicrous. Some listeners may not understand some of the finer nuances of metal and its sub-genres, but that in no way detracts from their ability to enjoy quality music (which in my opinion Deafheaven is). Anyone who likes a band simply due to their popularity can gtfo. If you love the music, rock it to your heart's content regardless of your general music taste.

but they're hipsters tho

Some, sure. They're annoying af in any genre. Bands with more accessibility will get hipster bandwagons because P4k said so, but this album seems a bit harsh to invite true hipster pandemonium. Sunbather was pretty. This album is just pretty nasty.
