"Could grow to a 4 because I love these guys so much, but I don't think it's objectively better than a 3.5. It's pretty, even stunning at times, but it never really takes off and capitalizes on the atmosphere it builds. That part of things is mildly disappointing, but if you think of this the way the rating was intended, "great", then I think it fits my description aptly. It's a very good album that falls just short of excellence. "
You've been taking the words out of my mouth recently haha.
Also what's the problem with Friendly Fires? I love the atmosphere/vocals there

"Pins & Needles"....if you have time
IF YOU HAVE TIME?!?!?!?!
Did you miss how infectiously bouncy and fun that track was? =[

Pins & Needles is definitely a highlight, agreed.

That summary is on all the points.
Who am I kidding, this album is growing so hard. Not sure if my rating will change though.

Really nothing special about this record at all.

After I heard neck of the woods I instantly thought it was their best so far and thought I would love it, but it sunk like a stone. I only listened to it a handful of times and haven't went back to it. I hope this has the opposite effect, Swoon is my favourite thus far

Always something a bit second rate about the Pickups but this...this... has no redeeming features at all
One of the worst albums I've heard this year

It's a really good album, but I'm disappointed by the direction they've taken. A bit too electronic for my taste. It's no surprise after Neck (which I also liked), but I kinda wish they'd put more guitars in their music. That said, it's probably going to end up a 3.5, like all of their discog. I feel like the quality is more evenly spread between tracks with every new album.

Great review
This album really surprised me

The difference between bandcamp's indie and >2013's metalcore cover arts is marginal.

I'm a huge fan of this band, but I'm not fond of the electronic stuff I heard from the last album. I'm probably going to pass on this one.

I would at least give it a listen or two...it may surprise you and if you're a fan of SSPU there's going to at least be a couple of songs on here that you'll enjoy. It's not like Brian just ditched his guitar either though, as much as people are making it seem.

^ Cool. I'll download it and give it a spin then. I love the shit out of Carnavas and Swoon.

yeah I mean this is another step towards electronic stuff, but there's still a fair element of classic SSPU...by no means an album to skip over, I actually put it on par with Swoon
