Pangea & PistolPete at odds with each other.
That's the thing about this album; It tries to satisy everyone, and ends up only satisfying hlaf of them. Or none of them by half. Ahhh, you know what I mean.

Last two albums are just pretty flat. At least in mind, the kind of exuberance and energy that made their earlier material great has been slowly dissipating until its almost absent entirely. It's a shame really. That said first half is very solid. Cascades and The Shade are great tunes.
Also, I cannot think of any reason that anyone other than Emily should ever sing lead vocals on any Metric track under any circumstances.

I agree with everything you stated WiE... Except about 'Cascades', which does nothing for me.

Well, you thought it would be polarizing. I love Metric's electronically-driven tunes, that one just goes full-stop. I'm fine with the direction they are taking their sound, they just seem to have a quality control issue.

I guess the question that needs to be asked is whether or not that quality control issue emanates from the fact that they are still compromising their sound. At least if they went the full way, the likes of myself might simply drop off & they can concentrate on the audience they're aiming for. Of course, that might not put as much food on their table.

Yeah, I'd prefer they went back to just throwing musical ideas at the wall to see what sticks. Their current sound and image is so manufactured and the results come out somewhat hollow or soulless.

Personally, I just want them to make an album full of the singles from 'Fantasies'.

The chorus to The Shade is just...
I think I hate it.

Decide and get back to us Ec. No hurry.

Sounds like metric doing chvrches a lot of the time, which is a shame cuz I loved old world underground and the like. Not their fault. Just the markets fault.

I'd never thought about that... & only partially agree with it. But if that hasn't even partially come into their thoughts, then it's a sure path to downfall. Emily & Lauren are both great vocalists in their own right, but not in the same way.

For some reason, I thought you were gonna like this Pangea. But yeah, I agree.

I do like a lot of this kind of music and her vocals are great. The songs itself just don't offer much

Good call. The song-writing ultimately lets them down. Dare I say it again, but it's frustrating.

Been a weird year for music for me. A lot of albums that haven't been received well would rank high if I were to make a year-end list right now. This would be one of those albums that would be higher than I expected. Iunno definitely some stinkers on this but once again the "hits" outweigh the "misses" IMO. It was the same for Synthetica three years ago.

Well, at least you know you're not a Sheep Pete.

The Shade is a jam, but yeah, this is pretty underwhelming as a whole.

Yeah, I might have to drop this. There is basically nothing here I care to revisit.

I do think that there a few tracks worth revisiting. Fortunes, Celebrate, the Shade and For Kicks are great
