Really liked Synthetica and everything else they've done before that, but the Soundcloud track really doesn't do much for me; maybe in context things will be better.

"Loved Fantasies, but they really lost me with Synthetica. Guessing I won't like this a whole lot."

While this isn't identical to 'Synthetica', it's difficult seeing many liking one, but not the other.

"think I'm going to like the glitchier, more electronically-driven songs the best"

Many will feel this way. 'Cascades' is either the best or worst song here, depending on your p.o.v.

"I hear they are lousy live."

I can't confirm or deny, but have always wanted to see them, if only for Emily's alleged stage presence.

I think you'll find something to like here then Acanthus. Check out 2nd single 'Cascades'.

I'd prefer to call them unfulfilled potential.

"I still bust out "Sick Muse" and "Gold Guns Girls" every now and then haha. The latter especially is such a sick jam"

Same here. Live version of Gold Guns Girls is sweet too. James Shaw doesn't solo much, but he busts out a great one on GGG live

Shaw has a way with melodies full stop, and it makes him a really under-rated guitarist. I don't think he's used it to his/their advantage since 'Fantasies' though.

I thought they were pretty good live when I saw them in Toronto about 5 years ago. "Dead Disco" was unbelievable live, and they played this EDM-influenced remix of "Twilight Galaxy"....so good.

Too bad ppl aren't liking the album. I'll probably still listen at some point. Does anybody else notice that these guys and SilversunPickups always release albums around the same time as one another? The last three albums from both have done this.

I noticed that jeremoggy. It could be interesting, but I don't have high hopes.

Nope Pete, you're probably the only one to have noticed. :-)

I absolutely love 'Gimme Sympathy', otherwise everything else I have heard by this band is forgettable at best.

As a prog nerd, born in the 60's, I must confess that "Fantasies" was the first 'poppy' album I listened to that I enjoyed every track - would not skip over any. Even like 'Waves' B-side (I read why it didn't make the cut for thematic reasons, but I find Emily's falsetto quite endearing). Scott Pilgrim song is great. Grow Up...on vinyl sounds fantastic quality-wise and one of the few remixes I like better than the OG "Soft Pop Star." Live It Out... also, some great tracks. I imagine the political nostalgia of OWU and anti-war/Bush sentiment keep this alive for some folks. Synthetica was 'meh', didn't buy it, but for some reason I felt compelled to pre-order this one... Ten listens before rating.

That's the thing with Metric, they've also got massive crossover potential. And we're talking multiple crossover categories here (pop, indie, electro, dance, hipster, rock, etc...). I wonder if they're trying to cover too many bases all at once.

It's a lot better than I would've thought. But it uses an egregious amount of that 8-bit video game sound. In every friggin song it seems like. "Blind Valentine" and "The Governess" are unreal.

The first half is great but the 2nd half is really lacking
