honestly it sounds like he tries to sound like he is pitch-deaf and cant sing even though he can just to have an eclectic edge and sound like bob dylan but just fails

I'm marking you down for a second credibility drop in a week Pots

I like the storybook feel to the vocals on this but they're a bit odd, it's Bejar. Kaputt had less of an issue with this as the production and backing vocals made his singing blend a lot more. He wanted to be up on stage like an old time crooner on this one (fully aware that could be quite a ridiculous proposition, he realises he's not a 'great singer').

My initial reaction to Kaputt would have probably been more damning than yours for this, but a year later that album was one of my all time favourites. He might grow on you if you can be bothered but this dude overlaps with 1% of the Potsy taste pie chart so prob not your boy.

Also saying 'dude so badly wants to be Bowie/Dylan' could be stamped on 99% of all post 80's indie acts ever

Excellent review. Hadn't heard this album (nor the artist) until earlier today. After three full listens, I'd say it's a remarkable one. For now, a four. Probably a large one at that.

Prowler - there are so many great Destroyer albums there could easily be one you prefer. Fancy more 80's sophisti-pop try 'Kaputt', more proto-indie rock try 'Streethawk', more eclectic indie styles try 'Rubies'

Figured I'd just move backwards from here, so Kaputt is up next

I liked Kaputt a lot and haven't jammed anything else by this fellow. Would this be the next best step or should I backtrack first?

i'd say backtrack, this particular album is a little different in style and sound compared to his other junk.

Something about your comment tells me that your use of the word "junk" isn't neutral.
