Steven Wilson played around with the whole "multiple panned splashes" texture in TSMS.

gonna go out on a limb and contend that ddd does not "get" this

on which note, has anyone ever solved the astral puzzle thang that runs between this/LYBM/Secret Song?

I will try this again for sure...when I get the time (ain't nobody got time f'that!)

In a first glance its great metal for dudes that don't like much metal and its great indie/exp for ppl that are not into it ...on other hand...whatever

when I checked this I was in the woods on a sunny day, made the right set&setting and all...but I couldn't stop my brain to find some cringe moments. Overall seemed to me like deep stuff tho.

The metal parts were probably my favourite parts. I read a little about the secret song thing, apparently it has something to do with kabbalah

ALL JOKING ASIDE this is one of those rare albums where it doesn't really work to reduce it to genre. so much clarity and focus behind most of this writing; rarely feels like a composite and it's not rly a metal or a non-metal album imo - which makes it an even greater rarity among AVANTmetal albums that basically pan out as wank solderings of however many gratuitous styles to however many riffs. idk, it has spirit and inner balance and pulling it apart into distinct camps gloriously misses the ~point. read Milo's Holy Fawn review and repent you fucking heathens

yeah I feel its original and great too. I found some cringe moments I intend to pass through with further listens.

all of the first motW albums have cringe moments, like jfc y2k toby driver was trying to compose the whole lot through astral projection. there's something deeply charming about the way this switches from quirky occultism to earnest high school poetry and i can't think of another act who could carry those tones the same way. purity and inner balance etc - far more precious (and ultimately less cringe) than any of the spiritual polymath postulation bullshit tool or whichever deodorant bands were wanking out a around the same time
