well of course you could say the same thing to the "true Linkin Park fans" (and by fans I mean elitists)

The whole idea of "true" fans is annoying, you're just a fan regardless of your level of involvement with them or their material :/

Band sounds so dumbed down on this. Seems like all the modern rock/metal bands are following this suit.

They probably all realized that they don't need to put that much effort into their work because the majority of their fanbase will eat it up.

Also, can we please bring attention to the fact that the drummer has a fucking anonymous mask on his drum in the aesthesis music video?

I agree about the term 'true fans' it's silly....I am a fan of the music not the people so if the music doesn't appeal to me I'll express it. I still like aesthesis though....will see down the track if I reflect on it as positively as their other stuff.

I've yet to warm up to the record at the time of this posting, but this album is hardly bad. Dead Letter Circus have just geared their sound with more pop sensibilities and streamlined it a bit. Ya'll just don't like the direction.

Yeah, i think you guys are definitely being too harsh on it. It's not fantastic by any means but it's hardly terrible. It's funny, it was the complete opposite with The Catalyst Fire. Everyone was absolutely jizzing over it when it was released but i was one of the few who thought it was average. Though now it seems that quite a few people have soured on that album as well.

The massive drop off in quality after This Is The Warning makes me wonder how much of the songwriting was done by Maric. It seems that after he left they just lost the 'magic'.

Not really, besides Catalyst Fire is WAY better than this shit

I remember everyone going crazy for The Catalyst Fire. I need to give it a re listen. I just remember it sounding like a poor mans version of This Is The Warning and without many memorable songs.

I like this because they're actually trying some new things with their sound. It's also got some really cool tracks - Change The Concept, Born Part 2, The Burning Number to name a few.

this sounds more like "giving up" than "trying something new" tbh

Yeah, nah.

I've listened to this probably 8-10 times now and I can say I comfortably disagree with the reviewer, I can't say he's wrong because he wrote an opinion piece.

To label this "lifeless embodiment of atmospheric rock" is quite frankly garbage. DLC still has the hooks and the melodies that makes them so completely unique and besides that it has so much to take in in the background with above average musicians that on more and more listens makes those hooks even more satisfying, emotional and special.

I'm yet to find a band that effects me like these guys do....

There are obviously parts of TITW that appeal to some people that are omitted from this record...but I can't quite identify what that is because this release still has all of what DLC means to me and the more I listen the better it makes me feel. I still love them and with so much to take in I can't take anyone who dismisses it in half a listen, seriously.

That's my opinion piece.

Australian rockers Dead Letter Circus continue to refine their sound on 3rd LP 'Aesthesis'. More accessible than their past records, the quartet emphasize their melodic sensibilities & Kim Benzie's soaring vocals here. The band's atmospheric & progressive tendencies are not completely eradicated, but there is a uniformity & slickness to the tunes which makes for a relatively unmemorable - if cohesive - listen. Luke Williams' drumming is once more a highlight, while the reverb soaked guitars only stand out upon further inspection. Ultimately, this is solid, but something feels missing. Recommended Tracks: Change the Concept, While You Wait, Born Pt. 2 & The Burning Number.

I still haven't given this album a shot, regrettably. The few songs that I heard just did so little to move me to want to listen to more to dive into it sadly. :/
