I've always really liked the vocals, though I wish he went crazier sometimes given the over-the-top humor of this band. Are they still together and making music? I saw a FB status asking for a bunch of extras to go to Detroit for something. Did they resolve all the legal troubles they were dealing with? I might've missed some details, last I heard the other guys were suing the frontman Papa Emeritus for holding out royalties or something.

"i could imagine akerfeldt over the top of this as well, immediately it turns into ghost reveries-lite"

there's a riff on Spirit that sounds EXACTLY like something you'd hear off Blackwater Park, noticed the first time I heard it and still do. Pointed it out to my friend and he agreed.

band is really derivative in general tbh. it's just the ridiculous image that makes them stand out

I couldn't care less about the imaging, the songwriting is tight as fuck

me neither but that's what draws most people's attention to this band in the first place. i don't consider them to be musically anything special

I know they're not highbrow or anything but they make fun, melodic metal and sometimes that's all I want. Plus they were great live.

They even passed around communion wine which was unique

from what I've seen of their last few shows something seems off, which could be down to all the internal problems they're having right now

I don't know, I think managing to have a pretty m/ sound while adding pop or even AOR, cheesy elements is pretty appealing

Specially since those are elements that most metalheads hate

It's done really well and in an engaging way though, Scooby-Doo music ftw

You can hear the passion and atmosphere in the music, it's not just all about image. Like this band has a lot more musical sides and weight to it than bands like Kiss or Gwar, that were pretty much all about image with decent, serviceable music as well. Each album by this band is unique, and they're surprisingly diverse, while being very straightforward and catchy. If you're not into mainstream music from any decade, than this probably won't appeal to you though.

It's true, I have seen them a few times and the recent one was definitely off in some way.
