You're truly right Jethro42.

Everybody should fluently speak English because is the universal language, whether we like it or not.

However, because the ridiculous nationalism which unfortunately abound and continues even in the world today, this is still not yet possible.

And both, because our mother tongue is other, we know perfectly well what we are talking about.

And, like you, I also love speak a beautiful latin language which is, the Portuguese language, with so important historical tradition, like your French language.

However, I think that what smaugman whant to say was that as if you live in a bilingual country, all Canadians should speak fluently both languages, English and French.

I don't know if that it's true.

However, as you know Portuguese is one of Latin languages with Spanish, French, Italian and Romanian.

And don't forget that in Brazil they also speak Portuguese. It's the same with England and United States, as both speak English, although differently.

I think Jethro meant that French is (along with the other latin languages) a romantic or romance language, that's the name given to all the languages that came from latin

@smaugman, French, as are all the latin languages, is supposed to be naturally romantic, in every fibre of the term. Music remains music and movies remain movies even if they both have the power to transform any languages in romantic ways. French is truly a beautiful, romantic language that can embellish a music, or a movie, or a canvas ;)

Oh, according to Wiki, ''Romance Languages'' is only a given title to the whole latin family. Gotcha, SirLord.

One more thing about Latin languages.

Latin languages are spoken all over the world by many countries. Anyway, we must not forget that 60% of English words are of Latin origin and 40% of German words, too.

Our Roman friends are primarily responsible for it.
