I love how when anthony puts out a review, an albums average on this site ALWAYS shifts towards his rating, even if it is by a tiny margin; This album was no exception.
I'm trying to get through this album but it's a long one, and I was never a fan of their vocalist to begin with so i'm skeptical

I get the impression patrick stickles is a bit of a cunt but i can't quite put my finger on why
album is a step up from local business at least

Never listened to these guys, but I'm enjoying this so far. The song lengths make it pretty easy to get through considering it's 93 minutes, but I really wish I could understand the lyrics better

I've always loved TA's vocals, but idk.
I guess they're love/hate.

I've always equated Stickles' vocals to a pissed off Conor Oberst

I can see that...

I wanted to like this, I really did. In fact some of the tracks are really cool with the instrumentation
But 29 tracks is unnecessary imo, some of these could've just been mashed into one listing like on other concept albums, and there's a lot of filler (hell there's a song with filler in parenthesis)
Plus like i said earlier, I just can't handle those vocals...

Except a pissed off Conor Oberst is actually intriguing and Stickles sounds like the drunk guy who hangs around town who you really try to avoid making eye contact with.
|
| |
i mean both of those sound great but still have a tough time getting into these guys
maybe they'll grow on me

yeah, I usually have a soft spot for vocalists with a lot of flaws or really rough voices... but this guy just oozes with "IM A MAJOR DICK" vibes and it makes it really hard to get into the band.

I like the general vocal style, but that combined with the (intentionally) rough production makes it harder than it should be to pick out lyrics, which really matters when you're dealing with a concept album.

"fantano's review for this was spot on"
dunno it was mostly: Guys I don't like the vocals. Also I don't like the piano on this record.
Although the "trimming the fat" part is justifiable.

this guy just oozes with "IM A MAJOR DICK" vibes
he definitely has that vibe but as far as i can tell that's just cuz he's an pretty intelligent dude with strong convictions. what he actually says and how he behaves seems to indicate that he's an alright dude, as far as i can tell.
fantano's review for this was spot on
he didn't really dig the monitor so he doesn't have the most reliable opinion regarding this band. anyway the vocals rock, and while i don't dig many of the "intermission" tracks, they're short enough that they don't hold back the record very much (all the tracks that are under 2 minutes long only take up a total of about 15 minutes on the record so they're pretty insignificant in the overall scope). woulda liked if there were very few breaks between tracks, though, like on all of the band's past albums which are just straight fiya songs after fiya songs after fiya songs.

don't get me wrong i think fantano is wrong but he's also spot on because i love him and his complexion

Epic review Sowing, a great read!
I need to give this a spin, sounds like quite the experience.

Got to check this out. These dudes kick arse.

I actually quite liked a lot of the interludes. They weren't the greatest but they were good enough to stop them from being a complete dealbreaker on the album.

After three listens I probably can't stand this. It's a shame, because there are some really good tracks.
