brostep goes into a fair amount of depth of the artists lyrics meanings, references, artist intention etc

problem with that is it can be like when in english lit and ur teacher goes far with the artists meaning and its like no maybe they were just literally meaning something (no deeper meaning or whatever)

or as potsy kinda said " wax-philosophical about an artist as intellectually void as future makes me want to vomit"

i was agreeing with the above points

but saying its also a very good style of reviewing if the reader just reserves their own judgement, takes in the insight and decides whats obvs bullshit, whether the artists intentions are what the reviewer said and all that

i dont know man

i don't see the point in that degree of conjecture with an artist like future when the reader basically has to dismiss 90% as the reviewers imagination rather than the artists intention

not to mention no one that actually listens to future's music gives a care about any of this

the writing is good as usual but the content is pointless

I mean there's an implication that what I'm saying is how I see the album. Like when I say that Future is taking stock of his situation I'm not saying "I'm one hundred percent certain that's what he's actually doing," I'm saying "hey this is what I heard and I found it interesting enough to write about". Like I have no idea whether Future is actually self aware enough to think "hey this codeine could be bad maybe" or if he's self aware enough but doesn't really care or whatever. I mean it's like when you read a book for English class and are like "I have no idea if Auster actually wanted to make grand sweeping statements about culture as a whole or if he's just reveling in narcissism" and your teacher is like "literary criticism is kinda bs anyway so just make a case using the text as evidence even if it's not one that make sense in a larger context".

Basically what I'm saying is twofold: a) I have no idea whether any of this is meaningful at all but I can construe if as such and hope someone's willing to engage it on an intellectual level and say "I actually see this" instead of "It's empty as fuck" and b) I probably listen to hip-hop wrong but I want to be able to take the words as important too and see what kind of perverse structures I can build with them.

Essentially tl;dr I suck at reviewing party music but that's ok!

yeah i'm not gonna tell you not to write a review like this but i see it more as an exercise in writing than a piece that will actually reach anyone

what you do is fine

its just what you really should be constantly saying in your review that this is all extrapolation and you dont know the artists intention

but that wouldnt read very well so your sort of have to fill in the gaps as if the lyrICS really mean something. otherwise you just end up affirming the the lyrics mean nothing

Also its more interesting that you took an artist like Future whom many wouldnt consider to have any depth and tried to find something

i dunno i like your writing style but i get both arguments

"If we are to take his verses as canon, Future Hendrix is a machine. He drinks, smokes, snorts and fucks through a haze of lean"

This is what you guys are over analyzing

yeah theres nothing really wrong with approaching this kind of music through this kind of lens despite what the vermicide's and andcas's of this world might think. noz from cocaineblunts/p4k is really great at it for example. this review is more of a full on http://i.minus.com/iGJIa6FEerunu.gif but at least you admit it

Yeah I understand everyone's reservations, but it kind of sits uncomfortably with me that someone shouldn't be able to write like this simply because it's Future, or that he makes a certain type of music.

I hoped for much more when going into this album. I mean, of course there are some bonafide bangers on here and Future is a charisma-bomb, but in my opinion this album is just a bit too samey-sounding for it's own good.
