Couldn’t disagree more mate.
I think it all comes together at this point.

The biggest problem with this album is its inconsistency, a solid third of this is amazing on the level of their earlier stuff, another third is pretty/very good, and the rest is ok with a handful of poor moments scattered throughout. Makes for a very uneven listening experience, I could probably drop this to a 3.5, but not lower than that for sure. Meanwhile WWD is a similar average quality but much more consistent.

thought this was the Slowdive thread and uh yeah [2] minus the 33% on par with earlier stuff
accurate regardless. LCW -> TMAA was already a big dropoff, and then this basically threw that quality baseline out of the window. they wrote half an excellent album here, but the rest is a flop. This Devil's Workday thru Black Cadillacs esp is an unfortunate stretch

I like Tetons and Cadillac well enough but I agree that’s the weak stretch (it would start with Bury Me but Bukowski is a heater and breaks that stretch up)

yeah, Bukowski is v much the light in the middle third (and even then, it's a little overlong lol). Bury Me With It kinda holds its ground purely thanks to that bridge, but even then it's tenuous

I think I finally bumped this to a 3.5 but part of me still feels it should stay on a 3 due to some overall wash of overproduced blandness that clings to most everything
Four or five very good songs but they’re not helped by the company they’re keeping either, the flow is a little annoying too, gimmicky I guess :/
WWD I find a genuinely fun and surprising album though, and the two epics on that one are outstanding

they might get a little better air if they turn themselves into a cloud

we are hummingbirds who've lost the plot and we will not move...
we have good news for anyone who loves bad news

can't argue with that, but I do find myself probably nudging it up probably an extra .5 or so for keeping a consistent atmosphere/"aesthetic" - not quite as effectively as Moon & Antarctica maybe, but still
maybe it's just teenage me being swayed by the '04 nostalgia of looking thru those beautiful liners while listening as a kid, but either way it at least finishes strong and has enough goodness on that backhalf to keep it from being front-loaded
