That’s pretty much all the essentials on Good News. Honestly I quite like all of Strangers besides Pistol (has great drumming tho) and tracks 9-12.
I think We Were Dead might be my least favorite, like tracks 5-11 are kinda whatever.

we were dead wishes it was as memorable as good news

Bad bad take, WWD is the closest thing they've made to a consistent album

That is an… interesting take Johnny, but I can respect it.

I mean, it's defs not their best lol, but every other MM (especially this one) is full of holes and misfire; WWD has a few duds, but there's a way more even level of songwriting from start to finish and the conceptual unity holds up surprisingly well imo

I get thinking it’s more consistent than this or Strangers, but the first 3 is all consistent indie rock greatness, especially TM&A their masterpiece.

I mean, their first two are great for sure but in ye olde spirit of 90s indiejank, neither has an even tracklist - and Moon is probs the choppiest of the lot, although the overall standard is obvs above this

i will say the divide between this and we were dead is a lot slimmer than i remembered
and the divide between this one and their first 3 is even thinner than that

first 3 have one dip each (dog paddle, long distance drunk, i came as a rat), but m&a is the only one where all the songs at least clear the bar of being good as rat is still decent

Wait TLCW isn't consistent?

Album Rating: 3.5
Much as I love that album, idk if I'd ever call it consistent; it's got a ton of ridiculous highlights, a few mild lows, and a lot of solid tracks that sound great in sequence but that I'd rarely choose to jam individually. It's the best kind of inconsistent

long distance drunk is buns ye

Long-distance drunk and I came as a rat or two of my favorite modest mouth songs

long distance drunk isn't great but I can at least appreciate it within the context of the album

What the heck, track 5 is Parting of the Sensory .....
Unless you mean not including 5

I suppose there are worthwhile tracks in there, just some annoying ones too.
And their most consistent albums by a wide margin are TLCW and TM&A imo

Yeah, I also think TLCW is really consistent. Just about every song is awesome and the whole album makes sense sonically / thematically / any other way you could think of. I think one can pretty much extend that to M&A as well, although it feels like it has more variety.
