Yeah! their best since Thornography, which isn't a popular opinion.

I've always defended Thornography and I still love it hard, but this is better and def their best since Midian, which pretty much everyone has been saying. ;]

Hawks, I don't know about that... I, for one, quite enjoyed Damnation - it's way too long for it's own good, sure, but it has this hellish wicked atmosphere and sound that made Midian fun - and Nymphetamine, while much more mainstream (though I don't see a problem with that, this is CoF, not Emperor) has very memorable and touching melodies.

Hammer does bathe in the glory of their blackened side and pulls it off perfectly but I still feel that the riff-heavy thrash-esque parts blend together a bit.

But yeah, it is their best in a while, obviously. I know that every record made by a band of a considerable tenure can and sometimes should be approached in context of their previous achievements - or underachievements - but it's also important to see the work for what it is.

Maybe it will grow on me, the three singles surely did.

And on a mostly unrelated note, I see parallels between Godspeed and this. This bleak medieval feeling. They did try to harken back to the abundance of tremolo-riffs and blast-beats a bit on that record too.

Ehhh I didn't feel any Godspeed on this tbh. The vibe I really get is a mix of Dusk, Cruelty, and Midian with modern sounding production.

Jamming this for the 4th time today though. m/

Godspeed was such a bland record.

I mean I still dig Godspeed to an extent, but yeah nowhere near as much as this and could see why you think it's bland for sure.

After damnation, his only above average record was Thornography. Still seriously miss Gian.

Ehhhh idk dude Nymphetamine had some pretty good guitar work too imo, but yeah I agree with you for the most part.
