Tommy has ruined the band. His constant poor singing, and random directions he takes the band in. What a joke.

Interesting album and definitely a must listen at least once for prog fans. But I actually think that it would take many awhile to realize this was the same band if they didn't know before listening.

I don't think fans of the band will just eat this up like the reviewer stated. The band has always been hilarious but in a jaw dropping and extremely entertaining way. I always likened the band to an extended and compressed nuclear explosion but that is gone (except for a couple sections). You always had to either accept them for their brutality and cheekiness or go away. The cheekiness is now almost all of the music instead of smaller sections or undertones. Now with all these super odd clean vocals and drawn out mid tempo beats (some of which are damn groovy) I bet it makes lots of longtime fans confused. I just don't see it having as broad of an appeal. Though it isn't a face blast like their other albums so some who probably couldn't stand their other material will like it more for that.

About half the album is good/great stuff. There is a lot of intricate and amazing stuff here. "Famine Wolf" "Turn on the Darkness" and to a slightly lesser extent "The Coma Machine" and "The Ectopic Scroll". But it goes downhill big time with "Rapid Calm" and "Memory Palace". Two tracks I don't see myself coming back to soon. At least the last two tracks are a solid end to the album.

All in all I'm extremely excited to see them with Animals as Leaders and The Contortionist next week.

I thought his singing wasn't that bad. For the style they went with this album I didn't mind it. It's his harsher vocals I can't stand.

I liked his harsh vocals, but they are so rarely used. I am not a fan of this new prog sound they have gone for on the past few albums, I think it worked for bands like dream theatre but it feels out of place and sounds awful to me when BTBAM try it. Guess I will stick to their older stuff.

Call me an optimist but I still can't wait to give this a listen when my copy arrives

It's certainly their most different record ever, and it's certainly not quite as good.

But of course experimentation is something you have to accept with this type of band and what made them so good to begin with.

You are the king of the optimists. I'm a self-admitted BTBAM fanboy who thought everything they've done previously was either perfect or damn near perfect and this record is nothing short of a soul-crushing letdown.

tbh this band is slowly growing off on me and i think my 16-year-old self would be 4.5ing this until the cows come home

TGM wasn't bad but I agree it's their weakest album. I can't see someone saying Parallax 1&2 suck at all though.

This album is full of both genius and unbearably corny moments. definetely the low point in their discography but that isn't saying much, i bet it is superenjoyable for people who dont mind the 70s prog quirkiness

Such a nice album. The quality of sound is perfect. The only thing that has dissapointed me is quantity of growls
