Worst Btbam ever, review is well written but I disagree with a lot of stuff

probably going to have to give this a couple more listens b4 I can rate, but it's looking like a 3 right now. The harsh vocals are so bad on this.

I'm getting the notion of those few that compare this to The Great Misdirect makes it a bad album. TGM is way underrated and isn't given the credit its due.

This album has made me sad. There are some good moments on here but it can't make up for everything else. Replace one of the songs with a "Telos" style dick pounding song to break up the monotony and I might have rated this a 3.5.

Hm... I've always enjoyed this band, but I absolutely cannot stand Dream Theater. I couldn't get into the last album because it was less energetic and more DT (not to mention being more of the same otherwise, and the formula was running thin), and this album takes that trend even further. I think it's safe to say that they've totally lost me at this point.
Part of why I loved this band is that they never seemed to take themselves seriously, and that made me forgive their extremely messy song structures. Now it feels like they're trying to take themselves seriously and have removed every part of their music that made me want to mosh or made me laugh, but their structures are still a disastrous mess. It just isn't fun anymore, and I can't 'suspend disbelief' with their song structures if they want me to think harder about their music now.

I'm also frustrated by their production these days... mainly the lack of dynamics. There's a ton of textural contrast, so there should be some sort of volume contrast as well to maximize the impact of that. Everything on all of their last few records is so compressed that there's no volume contrasts... even Alaska wasn't dynamic enough, but it was a whole lot more dynamic than this album and the last one. Take a look at the wave form for Melting City and you can't even tell where the clean parts are. Way overcompressed. You can barely even tell looking at Telos. Contrast that with Disease, Injury, Madness and it's immediately evident where the clean parts are. It sucks the life out of the music for me and makes all of the contrasts of texture and genre fall flat. Then again, they aren't a very dynamic live band, either, but this is definitely getting worse over time on their recordings.

man I really can't get into this at all. A lot of moments on this just make me laugh.

I tried to listen to this record, and while it has some cool instrumentation, i couldn't get into it AT ALL. I really don't like the vocals.

Vocals really irritate me, also can't stand that they are sooooo high in the mix... Mix kinda feels lifeless
