lolol I get you're point Tundra. I'm always changing fucking rating on BTBAM's albums cause sometimes they feel to me brilliant, to the point of a "favorite band", to the most wank showoff unemotional and "sterile" as you say band ever. So frin now on I'll rate these dudes always with a 4 no matter what they do X)X)

I wanna buy the live version of this, it's so much better in almost every regard. The mix completely ruins this record for me and it's actually really well performed on the live CD

Completely agree on the sterility. It's like they purposely tried to make an album that sounds exactly like what they're criticised for - structureless, masturbatory, Dream Theater - esque, etc etc. But there are still some great stretches and its a fun listen.

i think this is one of the best aging albums by btbam. saw them live for the first time recently and the tracks from this album sound amazing live.

Why does the intro of 'The Coma Machine' and 'Life in Velvet' sound like Maroon 5's 'This Love' so much lol???
Also, just heard the live DVD on YouTube, the heavier sections sound stellar. It's a shame Tommy's vocals just aren't that great anymore. I like this record a lot musically but the production is just awful, sucks ALL the energy out of it

Hahahaha, a friend of mine immediately compared the Life in Velvet intro to This Love at the time. You're not the only one Beardog.

This Love is the best thing Maroon 5 has ever made so it's hardly a bad thing. I was referring to the production being "awful" that you claim but it's not.

meh it is. Everything sounds fine on its own but there's just a lot of punch lacking. Everything sounds too perfect. Especially in the guitar department, could really do with more double-tracking or just more agressive/louder tones. Parallax II had perfect production, this is too clean, too sterile

You want to hear awful production? Listen to any Galactic Empire, sounds like midi

I agree with Beardog but I like seeing you give this a 5 Tundra, this record is underrated as hell and there's some sublime moments on it

On my commutes to college couple years ago I listened to this ever. damn. day. And it's the reason I got into prog in the first place (along with Parallax as well), the core elements mixed with the prog was my rite of passage per se. So yes this album is near and dear to me, and it's one of the easiest 5s I've given on here.

Yea I enjoy this way more now, compared to when it released. Disappointing album if you compare it to most of their other stuff. On its own it’s very good though.

I'm pretty much a classic metal fan as well as a dad rocker, but these guys are awesome and are probably the only 'newer' school band that cracks my top 10
