I just wanted a heavy hardcore album with lots of cool guitar work and decent screams. This had some guitar work, but my god the vocals and lyrics are just cringe worthy.

Very few bands have been hardcore bands for 20+ years and not mellow out at some point. Who knows how Dennis's vocals are these days and a live show is important when creating LP. there's no point in creating an insane vocal performance on an LP if you plan on touring to support the record and your voice gets shredded because you can't hit the screams anymore. If they plan on surviving as a touring band they can't spit out an LP that they can't deliver live.

Dennis is a far better singer/screamer now than he ever was before, technically. As for the album, Thought In Blood, Dawkins, 366 and Old Friends/New War are all pretty great to me
