Excellent review, Fripper - I'll be checking this album out soon, but it's a shame to hear it's mostly recycled material.

The Bridge Tour was fantastic though, one of the best performances I've seen - there should be a live DVD/CD release of it shortly

Just given it a couple of listens - your review is pretty much on the ball.

As much as I love Payne's voice, a lot of it is unnecessary as you say - and even then it's often swamped by the backing vocals.

Bad Men is pretty interesting as a song, but yes, the lyrics are just nauseating.

Couldn't be assed to mention all the songs they recycled besides La Rage so here it is if anyone (note: no one) cares:

"My Gravity" - originally "Malacandra" from 2010's "Journey's End", which was originally "Mars" from a 1998 tape by a previous incarnation of The Enid. Max Read also did vox on that version as he did on the 2010 version.

"Bad Men" - an original song, but uses bits and pieces from their 1977 cover of Golden Earrings, originally written by Victor Young, Jay Livingston and Ray Evans.

"Dark Corner of the Sky" - originally "Evensong" from 1983's "Something Wicked This Way Comes", also uses the piano motif from the title track of the same album.

"Earthborn" - same as the one on 1988's "The Seed and The Sower", just with a different, less interesting arrangement.

"Autumn" - originally "Autumn 'Veni Creator Spiritus'" from 1985's "The Spell", this version is the third time this instrumental has had vocals over it. First as an unreleased vocal by Rosie Hardman sometime in the late 80s/early 90s, and again by Joe Payne with new lyrics on 2012's "Shining" compilation.

"Silence" - originally "Gavotte" from 1997's "White Goddess". The original was a very dated instrumental with horrible 90s synths so the 10s update with just piano and vox is a considerable improvement.
