ok that i have to disagree with. i do like his early albums but nashville sound, for its faults, is interesting all the way through. i can't say the same for the pre-southeastern records. they have great highlights, as you say, but you have to sift through a lot of boring stuff to get there

The first three albums combined have like 10 songs that are better than everything on Nashville Sound except that one

It’s Vampires yeah.
I’m sure some people might prefer other songs on that album but I think that’s the only one that’s obviously undeniably amazing.

Checked out Dogwood Tales and after my first listen through, I can already tell I'm gonna adore it. If I had found it late summer/early fall I would jam it on repeat. Still missing the bite that country has had the past couple years. Jason Isbell, DBT, Stapleton, Margo Price (although Margo Price is from my hometown of like 500 people, so I do have some bias towards her), stuff like that. Love that they weren't afraid to tackle issues, which might be why White Man's World is one of my favorite tracks from last year. Although that being less common is probably what makes Isbell so special!
@Atari, anything you would recommend from this year?

dmathias you didn't mention Sturgill, but I assume you're familiar with him?

Yeah! He should have been top of my list, much less on it. I think I still prefer Isbell to him, but Sturgill is basically the Godfather of this modern-day progressive country movement.
