Freaking hell.

I'll need time to get used to the thought of Kamelot without Casey. His drumming has a lot of recognition value compared to other power metal drummers as far as I'm concerned (a bit more toms and stuff, more groovy and aggressive, almost tribal at times), then again, his abilities weren't really needed on the last two releases.

But why leave just before the final recordings? That seems inappropriate.

well it seems that they still finished the album so I think he was pretty much done when he told the band

Though someone told me that he's aiming for a spot in Queensryche

Yeah that's what I got from it too, at first, but then this part threw me off:

"The band is also confident that with the release of The Shadow Theory, fans will immediately recognize that Johan’s fantastic musicianship is a perfect choice for Kamelot. "

well the tour is coming up, no doubt they'll play songs off the new album with Johan.

But it says "with the release" and not "with the tour" ... I'm a bit confused about it. I hope that you're right and he's still on the album though.

Also, this news just made me further realize how uncertain I am about the upcoming album. Don't really know what to expect at this point.

Yeah, they phrased that weirdly.

Casey's been in the band for so long, we'll see how it goes with the replacement.

It's been climbing down the ladder for me honestly. I loved it at first, mostly due to the choruses (and man, they do rule). But it didn't have much lasting impact, mostly due to some of the songs sounding like something a lot of other symphonic metal bands would do just like that (Fallen Star, End of Innocence), too many of the songs falling into the mid-tempo category and therefore not as much versality as on Khan-era albums ... also the missing progressive elements and some stuff that sounds suspiciously familiar (Veil of Elysium's chorus sounds sooo much like Sacrimony's one).

Then again, there are a lot of exception to all of that, and Revolution is an exception to ALL of the aforementioned things. Without a question the most memorable and unique song on here. I still like it a lot as a whole, but I can definitely see a 3.5 on this one at some point in the future ...

Wait, already? Jeez that snuck up on me. I think my greater excitement for the new Amorphis album made me almost forget about this one. The Bee at least has me mildly enticed, whereas Ravenlight left me skeptical.

New song is decent. It's at least better than Ravenlight, but I'm getting a stagnating, Poetry for the Poisoned vibe. Tommy is still able to be the band's highlight, despite being underutilized.

Waiting eagerly for the new album and very worried that it will be unremarkable. Last song gave me hope though!

The problem isn't even that I fear it won't be good. Even at this point I have a hard time imagining Kamelot releasing a song that's worse than good. But I'm a bit worried they will stagnate. It's all good, but especially RavenLight is just more of the same. I hope there will be something as adventurous as Revolution on there. Because there have always been adventurous songs on Kamelot albums, at least since 1999. I don't want it to be "just another album" because they've always been better than that.

Yeah, it probably won't be that different, but we'll see. "Veil of Elysium" ended up being one of the safest songs on Haven.

But it was still fun and catchy, and is honestly one of my personal favorites from Haven. I'd probably rate "Ravenlight" below every track on Haven, because it feels like the very definition of a filler track.
