When I don't listen to this for a longer time I start thinking about the rating being too high, but after revisiting each single song it's like "Nop, still that good.". Might change in the future tho.

These guys aren't the ocean. The Ocean are the ocean.

Still thinking about lowering the rating on a 4, but whenever I relisten it, I think the rating is appropriate. Strange.

You make a good point, schooly-death. Maybe they should switch it to We are AN Ocean.

this is a weird album. some of the songs they absolutely hit the nail on the head (shere khan) and some of them are like a total swing and miss (there's nothing wrong)

Unwilling to stagnate, English act We Are The Ocean take an expansive look at the current rock landscape on their 4th LP 'ARK'. Containing a grab-bag of influences that include the likes of QOTSA, Muse, RHCP, Foo Fighters, Arctic Monkeys & even Franz Ferdinand, this talented quartet ambitiously aim at many targets here. Liam Cromby's superb vocals are ever-present, even if Peter Miles' production does him no great favors; opting for a live sound that benefits the musicians. A rather strange record; it's consistent enough, yet in search of diversity, it's almost intentional in its lack of cohesion. Recommended Tracks: ARK, Wild, Holy Fire & Hope You're Well.

They've always been rather strange. Consistent but strange. Having said that their debut is great.

I always thought their debut is great but after relistening, it's actually not THAT great somehow. Departure of Brown is the best thing that could've happened to them tbh.

I remember hearing their debut when I was younger and it was my go-to album for about a year, so nostalgia plays a part, but I agree that Brown leaving was good, I feel they may have become rather stale and repetitive had he stayed.
