I agree with the OK Computer comment, both this and that are right up there as some of the best albums ever!

I want to sex Matt Cameron. The fills on this are insane, and he has the sexiest sound ever (gets even better on Pearl Jam's Riot Act!).

I love the variety in this, it's the most varied rock album I've heard. You get the bizarre jazz of Head Down, rock anthem of Superunknown and the doom metal of 4th Of July.

Pretty good review, this is Soundgarden's best studio recording. 'Superunknown' and 'Black hole' sun are instant classics.

I take offense to you saying Matt Cameron is an average drummer. He's one of the greatest rock drummers of all time.

I have just never noticed anything spectacular from Matt Cameron. Maybe I'm paying too much attention to Cornell, but I really don't care about Soundgarden's drumming at all. It's just "there," and it certainly doesn't diminish the album by any means!

while i think this album is the single best album of the last 25 to 30 years i think this reveiw is good but a little lack luster. it seems to miss the boat on a few of the albums greatest songs. Such as mailman, 4th of july, limo wreck and head down. this is definatly the shining moment of not only grunge but phsycadelic metal

I can't believe this band got tarred with the grunge brush, they were so much better than any grunge band. They had beautiful melodies with strong, heavy song writing and some of the best solos I've ever heard on a record, not to mention Chris Cornell's vocal capabilities. They were too good to be bundled into the grunge category. Every song takes on a life of it's own and this album gives you a different feeling every time you listen to it. Pure Brilliance.

And yes, Matt Cameron is one of the greatest living drummers. This Message Edited On 05.08.06

Well I already said that I was disappointed with this review many times. I wrote the review before I owned the album, but AFTER I had listened to it from a borrowed copy. I realize that I missed some of the best songs because EVERY song is great.

And Soundgarden is not psychedelic metal by any means, not even in the way you've horribly misspelled it.

Soundgarden is psychadelic metal in a lot of ways.

The best tracks on here are probably spoonman, black hole sun, 4th 0f july, half, and let me drown.

Well, it's definately a masterpiece, and it will be Soundgarden's defining album, even if that means you miss the point slightly.

The guitar work on this is great, and the best part about the way Soundgarden writes (or whether this was a function of having two guitar players with different levels of playing ability) is that the songs themselves are accessible. You can play them fairly easily, even if you miss some of the layers. Like Superunknown... the layering there is crazy, you can't replicate that with one guitar, at least at my level of play. Yeah, the soloing can be a little bit out there, and

alot of it never seems to get transcribed, but the meat of the songs, you can play.

Speaking of guitar work, one thing that drives me a little crazy about Soundgarden, especially in the last two albums, is that the guitars get buried in the mix a bit. Play these things without muting them or killing the volume, and they rock. I'm guessing that Cornell has say in this, because his solo album is the perfect example of music being buried in the mix for vocals.

Like the second variation in the main Kickstand riff... it's buried, and I can't figure out why. That little song freakin' rocks when you let the guitars out in front.

An ok review. You obviously don't know your ass from your elbow on drumming. Becuase Matt Cameron's drumming was nothing short of amazing on this album and pretty much all other soundgarden albums. I don't know how you can review "spoonman" and not even mention the intricate drum work in it. But obviously you are ignorant on what intricate or "good" drum work is. I suggest you google "ghost notes matt cameron" and learn something. Also "head down" has some of the most difficult syncopations I have ever heard for the drums in a rock song. Please don't review any more bands
