Cornell has no grasp on subtlety, he's like Joe Cocker.

So what? He does a great job! Just say you don't like the band instead of accusing them of having no talent.

Cornell's voice is so masterful, unique, and full of emotion on this album, it is simply amazing. Thats one of the reasons i love this album so much, his voice goes over the top and it is something memorable. His range is amazing and something you wouldn't normally expect from a guy. His falsetto gives me goosebumps because it is just amazing. So in short, Cornell is a badass.

I would give this album a 5/5 because i think after 2 months of listening to it i would become bored, but i haven't. Highlights on this album for me are:

Limo Wreck

Black Whole Sun

4th of July

Spoonman

The day i tried to live

Like Suicide

Amazing album

No, they're really not grunge. That's just a fake genre, and Soundgarden is better than that.

i just bought this album along with "badmotorfinger" and "down on the upside" for a sweet £20 quid for the three of em, and this one is the best of the three in my opinion. i LOVE the day i tried to live, and mailman. absolutely brilliant, easily one of the best albums i own. anyone heard their cover of "come together" (beatles). totally out-does the original!!!

I think you underrate Matt Cameron, he is an amazing drummer (In Badmotorfinger he shines). Amazing album and Band. Cornell is an amazing singer.

Good review!

the thing is it's a good album and has some great songs, but the whole thing is to scrambled to be considered one of the essentials of the early 90's.

I finally got this album at the start of the year and I find it to be one of the most consistently good rock music packages available.

As a kid, I remember liking Spoonman quite a bit, then I didn't hear it again until about 1999 when I got a Soundgarden mixtape from a friend. I was hooked on the band after that tape

Albums like Superunknown are the ones that really deserve their top rating. There's nothing "fanboyish" about it, this is simply an excellent album.

Says the Libertines fan. I'm sorry that Soundgarden does not measure up to the standards of the British Rolling Stone.

Tied with Pearl Jam's Vs. and Radiohead's OK Computer for the best album of the 90's, IMO
