I always found the heavy parts of this (dulcinea aside) just never really hit me was always my biggest problem with it

I feel the opposite, I appreciate how few and far between they are and how gratifying it is when they do come

My grievance with this album is that with half the songs it feels like a heavy part was shoehorned into the final minute because they realised they still needed to be a Metal Band but had run out of time.

Just listened again starts off mid, ends mid.

Middle run of dulcinea to like Holy tears is good.

Might bump it to a 3.5 but same cons remain for me.

The ending of garden of light is literally one of the best parts of their entire career

Garden of Light peaks in the first third and is probably the most overrated Isis song full stop. Definitely their weakest LP closer

Garden of light doesn’t even get good til the last third. Better closer than hym for me. Also deez you gotta relax about the isis takes man.

I remember buying this album and a Rwake album off the shelf in HMV when I was like 14 off art alone and putting this shit on and thinking it was the most boring thing I’ve ever heard. It was my first ISIS record. I kept playing it cuz I bought it and I really liked the fold out art and such. Something clicked eventually and I developed a really strong emotional connection to it and it honestly is single handedly responsible for opening the door to non heavy music for me. Despite thinking Oceanic is superior to this, at the end of the day this and Wavering Radiant are the two most formative records of their discog for me and I’m not out here pretending otherwise for the sake of elitism. I think if you know me and my preferences well enough it’s pretty apparent why I’d resonate with this and Wavering Radiant, as well as the ambient additions to Oceanic the most out of their discog

yeah me too. I saw them on the tour just before this dropped they played 'Dulcinea' only off it and was so hyped then thought it was such a disappointment. Thought the same with the next record and just this kinda end of their discog just wasnt for me. I do try maybe once a year to come back and listen to this and the one after to see/hope that it lands but it never does, well both do briefly but no where near or how consistent what came before it too.

gonna bump it 3.5 though its much nearer that than a 3

In my head I said it like an old english northern women from the 50s.

All I can say on that is that if you come for the guitarz for ITAOT and WR you are coming for the wrong reasons. Which is probably why they are both so divisive, because the rest of their discog was very much about the guitarz.

I’m a rhythm oriented person in general so the larger focus on the rhythm section on those two does it for me

Nearly through celestial now which I prefer to Panopticon but not quite as good as Oceanic, nothing new there
