I actually prefer Asunder, Sweet to Lambs' Breath in terms of the drones

@clim But the thing is I liked(but didn't necessarily love) how they used it on Don't Bend and fucking adored how they did it on Skinny Fists. They seem to rely on it so much here. Maybe you're right actually and if that means they're starting to become a full on drone band then that sucks for me haha
|
| |
yeah not a big fan of Lambs Breath
certainly down there in terms of Godspeed tracks
plus it's even worse in context in that it kills the momentum of the opener
|
| |
and I don't think they "rely" on drone here at all
like yeah that's obviously the style they are (and have been) incorporating more and more
don't know why that's necessarily a crutch or something
again it just goes back to your preferences / inexperience with drone which is fine but it's a really common criticism of this album that I think is misplaced
|
| |
like if you can pretend to like The Seer you can pretend to like this imo

yeah saying "rely" implies that they are using it as filler or something, but on here it seems to be the centerpiece
which again is fine but maybe(most likely) if you delved into that type of stuff more you'd appreciate the middle two tracks

I do really love Piss Crowns though. It also barely has any dynamics for me to become emotional invested in it, unlike Don't Ascend.
And I appreciate The Seer more than I actually love listening to it, but again, that album had more dynamics than this. Idk, I was gonna review this, but maybe I should hold off cause maybe I just don't like drone as you guys say.

Really excited to jam this! Allelujah was pretty good so yeah.

The Seer is an entirely different kind of album though tbh

Cause you know, I've been the mistake before of reviewing, and hating, on an album for being inexperienced with it, and that turned out horribly lol

gotta say i prefer allelujah, but who knows what will happen, only heard this 2-3 times so far
sidenote: that little bluesy/surfy guitar solo 3 minutes into the first track. so good

Skinny Fists is their best album imo, followed by Slow Riot and F#A#

The drones put me in a post-apocalyptic trance and then Piss Crowns smacks me in the face to make me go "oh wait the world is over, that's unfortunate."

Just listened to the first track and it's pretty sweet. Hopefully the rest of the album follows

I think breaking up the drone tracks by swapping Lambs Breath and Peasantry might have helped the album flow better, but other than that I think this is pretty great. Not their best, not their worst.
