"if any band had released this, i would never find myself saying 'whoa, this sounds a lot like godspeed'."

I disagree. I don't know how they do it, but, for example, the melodies that they make are always very distinct and different than any other band I've listened to, and this album is no different, imo.

lol no worries gyromania I never thought that, was just reiterating that I like this because of what it is not who it is

although admittedly it is easier to be patient/allow time to grow & attach personal meaning when you have some stake in the band...for example say Brand New puts out a new record and it blows, I'm still gonna listen to it 50 times before I dismiss it. So I'll give you that much.

"i will concede that the last song is pretty good, but the middle section of the album is just a pregnant pause"

i think the 2 drone songs build up more atmosphere than any shitty post-rock band nowadays ever would be able to in their entire career. its no f#a# or skinny fists but its obvious that godspeed are still the king of post-rock

I totally understand people hating the drone lull. I found it annoying as shit and was ready to review it at like a 2.5 or 3 tops, but then headphones completely changed my perspective. When half the album goes from being pointless to being great, it totally flips your opinion.

Yeah I listened to this without the headphones and it just wasn't the same. I guess people would consider that a flaw because people want to get a much more ideal experience but that doesn't really bother me at all.

That moment 7 minutes into Piss Crowns (where it shifts tempo) is my favorite Godspeed moment in a long time.

The biggest problem for me is that this one is so fucking one dimensional.

What's one dimensional about it? If anything the drone music adds another dimension - you don't have to like it, but I wouldn't call it less diverse.

Well it's not like they didn't use drones before. I just can't help the feeling of hearing all of this before. It also has their lack of talented and influential song writing they're known for as well it just feeling dark for the sake of being dark. Not that their records have to be overly complex, even Yanqui had so much to offer at times because of how beautiful the climaxes were. The drones just make it lull and feel lifeless and emotionless for me, sorry dude haha

I don't care what you rate it dude, lol. I just think that if you classify this album as one dimensional, then you must think every GYBE album is too. The only difference between this and say, Allelujah, is that it is more condensed and the drone parts are lengthened.

Haha I don't consider their first three that way even in the slightest. There's many many different emotions and they really have something to say. Especially Skinny Fists. Even Yanqui and Allejujah have that to an extent. I just don't feel that here

my friend says this sounds like halo music (in a good way)

I kinda see it. it's got that grandiose, really retro sci fi vibe
