It's crazy how much Kendrick was inspired by Suga Free on this album. Especially on King Kunta. Listen to any Suga Free song like Why U Bullshittin? and go back to King Kunta. Sounds just like him. In an interview Free was like "I heard myself on that record, KING KUNTA!"

Snoop Dogg did not deserve to be featured on this masterpiece.

I admit I like it too, but man, Snoop hasn't done anything worth a damn since like the 90's.

It's such a shame that he didn't keep going with this sound. I couldn't get into DAMN at all.

Stripping down his sound after this was necessary imo. A victory lap in the same dense style would have been underwhelming. If it got any more grandiose, it would have crossed into self-indulgence. I enjoyed DAMN... there is just much less to marvel at than there is here

Can’t help but agree that DAMN was probably the proper progression of Kendrick’s sound after this album. needed something a little more stripped down, straightforward, to the point.

Point taken, but I guess I just really enjoyed the P-Funk and live instrumental vibes on here whilst DAMN sounded like a typical 2017 Hip Hop record instrumentally.
