This may be the most over-hyped record I've ever seen on this site.

I feel like that's more of a hyperbolic statement than anyone is making about this album

I just feel that most of the accolades being thrown his way shouldn't be accolades but a standard for the genre. Reminds me of Chris Rock's standup routine where he talks about people bragging about how they haven't been in jail for a while, or that they pay their child support on time, etc; congratulations, you're doing what is expected of you! I like this album and I'll prob bump up the rating, but it just seems a lot of the praise being dumped his way is because he refused to fit into the below sub par mold that a majority or modern rappers stick with, he shouldn't be praised for that, it should be the standard for all rappers to rise above the mediocrity of cliche rhymes, topics and beats.

or maybe its highly rated cuz of the fantastic rap, concept, songwriting, dynamic flow, maybe? maybe not just hype? can an album actually be good without people complaining that people like it?

I think the coolest thing about the album is that even the people that are complaining about at the very least still consider it a good album. IMO that says a lot. In retrospect, in 2015 we already have an album that is arguably going to be one of the best albums of the year.

2014 was such a slow year musically, and definitely out of the hip-hop scene. We got this and Sweatshirt's new album already, and the outlook for 2015 looks very nice.

Even Lupe had a very solid release.

I completely forgot about lupe's release, but that just further proves my point. Even Lupe's album(which is like a 3.5-4 imo) is great. I really just thankful we're having the conversation of "is this really THAT great" rather than "is this a good album or bad?"

I find it hard to believe anyone can see this as a bad record, but I can understand people being on the fence with GKMC.

Progression is a beautiful thing.

As far as other hip hop releases this year, Earl's album seems to on the right track, Death Grips insanely anticipated album, Kanye, DOOM, Action Bronson, A$AP Rocky, Aesop Rock, Chance the Rapper, Jay Rock, Mac Miller is still progressing, Carter V of course, Pusha T, and I think Raekwon too.

Shit, I even really dug the Drake album this year a lot, but I seem to be in the minority there.

Drake's new album is probably my most played album on 2015 so far. Its pop-rap at its best, and honestly it was my most enjoyed album this year until this dropped.

All of those albums are on my watch list too. After a pretty bad year last year, this could be the best year for hip-hop since 2012.

Last year did suck hip hop wise outside of Busdriver, RTJ, and a handful of others. 2013 was solid, but I think it's no question that 2012 has been the best year for hip hop of the 2010's, but I also think this record already tops any record that came out that year (for me, at least). We'll see. If the new Earl and Death Grips end up being great, this year will be tough to beat.

Yeah, out of all of them so far, it's clear that yours is the least rushed through how it's constructed. Also, that last paragraph is a killer; shame you're no longer contrib

They kicked me out for good reason though, I haven't had time to review very much in the past 5-6 months, so I've just been sitting idle.

Thanks for the kind words again! It doesn't really matter to me if its flagged or not, as long as someone enjoyed what I wrote, nah mean.
