Is "sucks the least" just a roundabout way of saying "best?" Because this might be that.

It is. I mean, technically it's the same thing. Right?

but they have 3 or 4 albums that don't suck at all

Comes off differently, I suppose. It would be literally the same for me to say that this is the DT album that I hate the least/love the most, but the take away from each statement would be different.
I feel like I'm overthinking this

This is the best DT album. I mean, in Awake you can clearly hear a band. Kevin Moore is adding different layers, Labrie is warm but when he gets angry, he nails it (Mirror - Lie), Petrucci offers some killer riffs and solos and even the Pantera vibes do fit, Myung has some of his most inspired bass lines ever (Scarred - Lifting...) and Portnoy doesn't sing too much which is definitely good lol. The production feels dark and isolated, full of character, not that bland thing you hear in the last 7-8 albums. Plus all members write music + lyrics and Eve is the best bonus track they ever had. Absolutely phenomenal album.

@wild: haha I get what you mean by the phrasing. Least disliked vs most liked definitely ha a different connotation.
@Elio: Agreed with everything ElioG. Images used to be my favourite, but the moodiness and focus of this serves it better. Nothing really feels forced, it all feels organic, and Kevin's influence is huge. Eve might be their best b side track agreed, a beauty
@Kalk: Here's Eve https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DiayUWUhZSQ

Yeah, I love Images and Words as well but Awake just kills me lol. I forgot the samples! What a great work! I know all about the honor of god Mary I know all about the honor of god Mary I know all about the honor of god Mary I know all about the honor of god, Mary Jane!
You can find a great video with the movie samples of Awake and Change of Seasons on Youtube.

@kalkwiese I know dude dw. Was just thinking out loud, over an internet forum. That makes sense, right?
@ElioG best DT sample is the Russian guy. Most underrated prog vocalist of the 90s
Need to check Eve, never heard it

Eve is absolutely beautiful. Need this in my collection tbh. Awake is a long ass album, but Eve has to fit somewhere...

Yeah, Eve has this Kevin Moore magic that is irresistible. Btw, you have to check (if you haven't already) the first Chroma Key (Kevin Moore's project after leaving DT) album, Dead Air For Radios. It's full of songs in the vain of Space Dye Vest with minimal electronic elements, really good.
