Oh, this is also one of my all time favorite vocal performances that involves Janis Joplin. Great stuff for anyone who wishes to give it a listen and isn't ashamed to admit that Tom Jones' voice was a nuclear weapon.

Haha, I 've listened to that song before and the duet is incredible and imho Tom Jones' voice is indeed amazing!

would you recommend this as a good starting point for her manosg or something else?

This is a good starting point, although I think of Pearl to be her most accomplished effort. Also, don't forget to check Cheap Thrills with Big Brother & the Holding Co.

Excellent review, manosg. You were the one who compelled me to check out Nina Simone, who I fell in love with, and now you've compelled me to check out Janis Joplin. I've always heard her name mentioned among the classic artists of the time, but I surprisingly never had the chance to get into her music. Thanks for changing that for me, man. Definite thumbs up from me, this was a very enlightening read. Great work as usual, manosg.

Being a contributor doesn't necessarily mean that you're a good writer, people need to realize that.
No you definitely have to be a good writer to become contributor. But yeah, reviewing new releases is a big part of it as well, like it or not. That said, if manosg mixes things up by reviewing new releases next to old ones, he's got a great chance of becoming a contrib the next cycle. PS: it's not exactly inside information, it's my personal opinion, but he's definitely deserving and I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks that way.

"No you definitely have to be a good writer to become contributor."
I disagree. In the past I have read some badly written reviews from contributors. Even some staff reviews are badly written.

@Atari
I'd say yes, provided you're in a rocking soul/r&b mood. As rockandmetaljunkie noted, Pearl is also an excellent album and Cheap Thrills is great too but it's more psych rock. So depending on your mood, take your pick!
@riffariffic7
Thanks dude and I'm really glad you enjoyed Nina! Knowing your taste, I think you'll enjoy Janis too.

This one is my favorite (for the vocals), but both solo albums are excellent.

I just noticed that To Love Somebody is a cover of my Bee Gees's favorite song, didn't noticed until now since both sound so different

"45 years after her untimely death and Janis Joplin is still the prototype for any aspiring female rock vocalist."
Agreed hard.

I remember this being a major good'un but I've only spun it once or twice with the last time being over a year ago... need to change that
EDIT: Apparently I rated this back in May 2015 so I more likely than not haven't listened to this in over two years... yikes
