Icarus Dream Suite ending is a masterpiece? Cmon Trap, the whole damn song is! I love how he begins the main solo

It's a excellent album, there is no doubt, but i think "Marching Out" it's better. Maybe the latter sound more like a "band".

Indeed, the whole song is brilliant but my favourite section is the ending theme.

Damn this STILL rules. Almost 30 years later and his technical proficiency is still competitive with the players of today.

Can't stand this guy.

He was the embodiment of Rock n' Roll. He was flashy, he was arrogant, he was wild, and literally no one could compete with him when he first came out. If you don't like him, you've got respect him and what he did for guitar.

Yngwie is the reason I originally thought most guitar solos were pointless self-indulgence. His music is cheesy, flashy, pretentious garbage imo. He's an excellent guitarist, don't get me wrong, too bad it's all suffocatingly technical just for the sake of it. Obviously I'm referring more to his other stuff. This album isn't too bad, but it still doesn't do much for me.

This album was groundbreaking. How can you say Black Star or Far Beyond the Sun is garbage?
Tell me something that sound similar previous to this release.

Notrap: Should have read on, I said I don't so much mind this album. Still, it's technically impressive, but it doesn't sound all that great to me. I lose interest very quickly. Even some of the best songs like " Icarus' Dream Suite op. 4" are a total snoozefest.

I can understand criticism of Yngwie and his relentless, sometimes tasteless wanking, but how people can not appreciate what he did for guitar is silly. Without Yngwie there wouldn't have been guys like Vinnie Moore, Jason Becker, Marty Friedman, etc which inherently means there probably wouldn't be guys like Jeff Loomis and all the other skilled guitar players of today. Yngwie revolutionized metal and guitar playing as much as any other single player ever has.

Malmsteen: Tosin Abasi's father.
Both are immensely talented but can't write a fucking song to save their lives and have had their heads so far up their own asses that they don't realize that an album of wankery is beyond annoying

Tosin Abasi won't even have a legacy. Comparing him to Yngwie is like comparing a suped-up Civic to a Ferarri.
|
| |
Ferrarri's also don't have any use other than proving that you have a tiny dick, just like Malm's
discog.
Malmsteen might be influential but he is hated in just as many (if not more) circles as he is
worshipped

"Malmsteen might be influential but he is hated in just as many (if not more) circles as he is

That's a complete myth. The only people who don't like him either a) blues/jazz purists or b) don't like technicality in general or c) are just jealous they can't play like him and would in a heartbeat if they could. In my 10 years of playing, I've yet to meet a single skilled guitar player in real life who hates Malmsteen.
