Review Summary: A new Nickelback album and a new direction. 'No Fixed Address' breathes new life into a band that needed it.

'No Fixed Address' has several songs that showcase that Nickelback can be musically adventurous when they set out to be. Unlike Nickelback's past few albums, 'No Fixed Address' doesn't simply stick to the tried and tested heavy rockers and slow ballads mix. It contains some pure pop songs, a funk injected pop rock number, a few country influenced tunes and an appearance by rapper Flo Rida.

They all have the usual straight forward lyrics that you'd expect from Kroeger, but a song like 'She Keeps Me Up' is a surprising and successful change of pace for the band. It starts with a really funky guitar riff and a chorus that will stick in your head for weeks. While 'She Keeps Me Up' is a new direction for the band, 'Edge Of a Revolution' is vintage Nickelback. A politically charged rocker that shows the band is not all about cocaine and girls.

The lead pop single 'What Are You Waiting For?', is a solid mid tempo ballad that Bon Jovi might produce these days but Kroeger delivers it with a bit more personality. The usual Nickelback ballads are hit and miss here, with 'Satellite' working nicely because of its earnest lyrics and 'Miss You' faltering because of its overly sentimental chorus. Kroeger almost falls into parody with 'Miss You' at times, as its whimsical melody sounds very old fashioned, which may of been the point . The strongest song lyrically, is 'The Hammer's Coming Down'. It's a Linkin Park type anthem that builds to an epic finish. Lyrically the album is inconsistent like most Nickelback albums. The band gets a bad rep for having some silly lyrics but those moments are usually only brief occurrences. Kroeger is very good at writing catchy songs and whether you like the band or not, the dude knows how to create songs that will be instantly memorable. The album is without a doubt Nickelback's most melodic and pop orientated effort to date and it rarely puts a foot wrong.

You basically just said the same thing twice.

Throughout the review you don't really justify your reason for giving it a 4. Why do the songs have more personality? What makes the album so "musically adventurous"?

Don't just talk about each individual song one at a time. It's a boring format and looks amateur. Also, why is there one paragraph in the middle which is just a single sentence? Try and make each paragraph a similar length.

I won't neg seeing as it's your first review, but make sure to spend some more time on the next one.

Well I didn't direct that comment at you.

If you actually think the other comments are constructive criticisms, you've lost it.

You just have to take it on the chin and try and improve on your next review. Maybe review something you think you can confidently talk about. Your first review is never your best.

I love to see these keyboard warriors argue about a musician as if they were masters of music themselves.

because you need to be a musician to discuss music? that's like saying you need to be a red seal chef to talk about food

it just rustles my jimmies when people flex "musical knowledge" on forums as a condescending, knee-jerk reaction. you don't have to be an artist to appreciate art.
