true. They need to skim the fat on their albums, the ones I've heard always run way too long.

Oh man, this is a really fine review. So balanced I can't help but agree with most points. The album is quite predictable, and every song is very sylosis - no drastic changes since monolith - Full length listen can be taxing - Tight songwriting as usual. They were musically more diverse on EOTE.

Where I disagree is that ballad - Dissapointin. Was that same band that composed - 'where the sky ends'. Also, that SP cover is not coherent with the album; doesn't belong here to put it nicely.

That said, I wish you highlighted the occasional doom/sludge-y vibes on this record, although limited, they are distinct (leeches, mercy, overthrown) and perhaps the only evolutionary aspect of this record.

I don't quite get your summary of 'Conventional metal for the masses' to be honest. I mean I get it when you described it but it sounded like a pretentious way to call them a 'sellout' (at first glance). We all know words like 'masses' sets this negative bias, especially for the psuedo-goth metal(bone)-heads here who think it's hip to hate on anything that potentially has a wider appeal - just my opinion.

Again, cheers for this balanced review. m/

This band is just brilliant. I have always thought so. From a song songwriting perspective, they blow so many acts out of the water.

Man, I get that people don't like this band and that's fine. From a music theory perspective however, they are extremely solid and that's indisputable. Theory helps quantify that these guys have song crafting skill. People who downplay that are just people that hate for the sake of hating.

Knowledge of music theory has absolutely no effect on how "good" or "bad" this band is at songwriting because "good" and "bad" are purely subjective.

"From a music theory perspective however, they are extremely solid and that's indisputable."
What does this even mean?
