this doesn't say anything about why the album is good
I would say that's mostly buildup to the rest of the review where I attempted to explain why the album is good... perhaps there's too much buildup. Ah well.

"the only song i like is the closer"
probably one of the only songs closest to previous FOB pop-punk/pop-rock

Nicki Minaj didn't blatantly stifle her creativity and abandon her genre of music just to stay relevant, which definitely can't be said for FOB.
It's fine that you believe that - I disagree though, they certainly abandoned their genre but I don't think they abandoned their creativity along with it. I think a lot of the song structures on here are fucking on point, for example the transition between the keyboard intro and the beach guitar riff in "Uma Thurman"... personally I think there's lots of cool moments like that on here.

Uma Thurman is one of the high moments on this album imo

surprised there was no mention of "Centuries". Considering how much this review is a look at their career, legacy and future, it's kinda ironic you wouldn't talk about that song, its success, and how its lyrics could have so obviously fit in your review
I decided to focus on "Centuries" mostly because the piece was already getting long and there were other tracks I decided to bring up instead, but I get what you're saying.

Really well written review
That being said, I can't find it in me to truly enjoy their new music. I give them major credit for managing to stay relevant and knowing how to craft a decent pop record, but this album just isn't for me
Thanks man... I think this record isn't for a lot of people, but I enjoy it for what it is, in a different way than how I enjoyed their older works. Even though I think there's a lot of their signature elements still present here, they're executed differently. I feel like this will get hated on way more than it deserves, I prefer this to most pop on the radio right now and FOB have always been a pop band in one form or another.
Damn I've been writing way too many responses lol... should've made this one long comment. Long day, sorry guys.

I'm sorry bud, but this is objectively godawful. Fall Out Boy has gone from tolerable and somewhat catchy to downright toxic.

I agree with this.

Nice work here, Alex. Not sure why some here can't agree that this isn't well-written, but some people can't separate their own asinine opinions regarding the music from a good review. I will definitely check this, had no idea this was coming out.

wow this review is a complete chore. fitting, i suppose, as is the album.

Nice review although I think you could cut out a lot of this FOB comeback stuff and talk about the actual music more. This
review almost makes me want to check this but I know it will suck. edit- seems this was covered

Aw man I thought you'd like this Arcade... to me this is a step up from SR&R, I think it's more diverse and inventive.

It's not horrible, but it's pretty lazy and "meh" in my opinion.

Fell in love with them after seeing them on the Take This to Your Grave Tour and have so many good memories and feelings associated from Under the Cork Tree.
All the synth and production that flooded into their sound following those albums as they tried to remain relevant just ruined it for me. Those first two albums will always be FOB for me - the rest isn't on my radar. Love them to this day.
Side note - what do the other members of the band do when they are playing material from the last two albums live? Pose?
