Good idea - the Statue of Liberty
Bad idea - the statue of backgammon enthusiasts

I'm trying so hard to get into this album, but Joga is the only song I can really get into.

characteristics of pop according to wikipedia
"a tendency to reflect existing trends rather than progressive developments"
no
"intended to encourage dancing, or it uses dance-oriented beats or rhythms"
absolutely not
this album is about as far from those characteristics as possible. The only song on the album that is questionably pop is alarm call.

Just because some bjork albums are "art pop" doesn't mean all r. By that rationale medulla would be pop, but that doesnt necessarily make it so.

Dude, this is pretty much straight up art pop.
There are undeniably pop melodies present, and the first half of Wikipedia's definition seems to reflect common sentiments rather than more "well-educated" ones, not to sound like an elitist prick. The second half of that definition absolutely fits, there are danceable rhythms on half of the tracks here

NO! beyonce is pop. florence and the machine is pop. this isn't pop. there isn't anything danceable/cachy about this (except maybe alarm call, as i have already mentioned), despite the "pop melodies/beats". album is intimate and emotional, its not something you would play at a party or dance to. and despite commercial success it isnt even that accessible (which is literally what pop is supposed to be), as clearly shown by user "tableguy" above.
pop is light, this isn't. pop is danceable, this isn't. you can snap fingers or tap feet to pop, you can't this. It usually takes more than one listen to get into this, which isn't characteristic of pop at all. So i really don't understand the pop label. but w/e each to his own i guess. i'm done discussing this.

"NO! beyonce is pop. florence and the machine is pop."
correct.
"despite the "pop melodies/beats". album is intimate and emotional"
just like most of the best pop.
"pop is light"
not neccessarily, although usually, yes
"you can snap fingers or tap feet to pop, you can't this."
I can
Of course this isn't pop in the same way as most of the songs playing on the radio, but that's only a part of what's "pop". Based on the parts of wikipedia's definition you quoted (there are other definitions listed on there which clearly imply that this is pop) The Beatles, The Beach Boys and Kate Bush aren't pop..
well whatever, it's not as big of a deal as we're making it out to be, anyways
