Taking Back Sunday have recently rised and risen above most emo bands out there, and have become one of the most successful bands in the emo scene this millenium. Their first album Tell All Your Friends introduced us to the band we love today. Where You Want To Be is their eagerly anticipated sophomore attempt.
Set Phasers To Stun - 7/10
An interesting opening track. It's quite mellow, and the lyrics are very TBS. Their new backing vocalist can't get it better than their last, and his singing in the second verse is pretty messed up. The music is pretty cool though, but this song is nowhere near what they can achieve.
Bonus Mosh Pt. II - 7/10
It doesn't really get better here. The music is a change for the 5 piece, with palm-muting most of the way through. But the lyrics aren't that interesting (Well it's love, it's love, it's love/Make it hurt) and in some ways cheesy, which lets down this musically good song.
A Decade Under The Influence - 8/10
The first single off the album, and a good one to pick. The lyrics are catchy (I've got a bad feelings about this...) and the music is pretty standard for TBS. The bridge is also quite catchy, getting slightly heavier than your usual song by this band.
This Photograph Is Proof (I Know You Know) - 7/10
Featured on the Spidey 2 soundtrack, you'd expect something great. It doesn't really fulfill that label, with not-so-original lyrics and music that is overplayed. But the chorus is quite catchy, and makes up for the poor verses.
The Union - 9/10
I love this song. It's experimental for this band, as it's so hastey and so fast, then slowing for a second in the chorus. This song is so addictive, and the lyrics go well with the fast music as well.
New American Classic - 8/10
Taking Back Sunday's acoustic attempt on this album is very moving, using string orchestra in the background. The lyrics are pretty deep as well (Just ask the question, come untie the knot/Retrace the steps as if we forgot). But I think it's placed in a weird position, after the fast song The Union.
I Am Fred Astaire - 6/10
One of the weaker songs on the album, but it's still listenable. This song leaves a lot in the open, and could be majorly improved both musically and lyrically. But it isn't a bad song, you can still listen to it and think "This is a good song." But it could've been better with TBS's standards.
One-Eighty By Summer - 8/10
Another great song on the album. The intro is really nice to listen to, and the lyrics match the music amazingly. Adam and Fred switch vocals so well in this song as well, which pretty much completes this song.
Number Five With A Bullet - 8/10
This isn't your average Taking Back Sunday, with very distorted guitars which sound chuggy. But the lyrics are again great. Not of the standards of Tell All Your Friends, but certainly great for the band. Definatly a favourite off the album
Little Devotional - 9/10
Very weird intro, leading into such a harmonic intro. The music in this song is perfect, and so peaceful. Adam's vocals match the mood again, and Fred's backing vocals sound so great. The lyrics aren't exactly groundbreaking, but it's the music and vocals in this song which make it amazing.
...Slowdance On The Inside - 9/10
Another superior song. It's very calm throughout, and the verses are amazing with the drumroll and guitars. The lyrics are pretty deep as well, and the song alomst reminds me of Brand New - Soco Amaretto Lime. Overall, it's a great finishing song for the album.
This, in no way, can match what Tell All Your Friends did, but it does a pretty good trying to. The songs are as catchy as ever, and the new line-up doesn't really change much, as you can hear on this record.

Downloaded album review :rolleyes: I'm sorry but I just don't like this. The people who actually wait for the album to be released and buy it deserve to get the top review in it. Anyway it was a good review. Only heard the new single. Most things i've read say it's not as instant as Tell All Your Friends and that you need to wait a while to get it. Will get this when it's released.

i've only heard a decade under the influence and i know you know (spiderman 2 soundtrack..shameless plug for my review) and they were good. i'm trying so hard not to download cause i wanna support the band and buy the album but i was a little upset that your own disaster didn't make it to the album, they redid the song from the warped 2003 compilation and put it on the japanese version of the album but not the american...i guess i'll have to download that...but good review

The Review:
The musicianship on this album is nothing to special. The Guitar riffs are Incredibly repetitive, every song on the album sounds the same. If your looking for the taking back sunday you heard on Tell All Your Friends, you will be dissappointed.
I cant begin to pick any highlight tracks, they all sound the same, slow and repetitive, and the lyrics rarely make any sence. In 'A Decade Under The Influence' the lyrics "i've got a bad feeling about this" are repeated continously, well ive got a bad feeling about this album.
Positives:
A couple catchy tracks.
Negatives:
Where do i begin? ...This CD is lacking in so many areas. Where are the breathless, hopeless, yells from Lazzara? Where are the lyrics that were so brilliant always leave you wanting to listen again? When TBS lost John Nolan They lost the old taking back sunday, they lost the good taking back sunday. They lost the brilliant lyrics, and thats what made taking back sunday great.
The lyrics on this CD are terrible. I must stress again that the words are just repeated over and over and over again. The loss of John Nolan hurt this band so much. Leaving Lazzara on his own to write lyrics was a terrible idea, nothing makes sence. Even some of the song titles dont make sence. Theres a bonus mosh pit part 2, but there was never a part 1, and how can there even be a 'bonus mosh pit' ...someone please explain this to me.
This Album sounds Absolutly nothing like 'Tell All Your Friends'. 'Tell All Your Friends' left me wanting more, 'Where You Want To Be' left me wondering how i managed to sit through it with out my ears bleeding. If your an old taking back sunday fan i would not recomend this album to you, save yourself and savor 'Tell All Your Friends' Because 'Where You Want To Be' will make you question why you ever liked TBS, but then i guess you'll realize its because they used to be good.
Overall 'Where You Want To Be' is nothing you'll be impressed by, because there is nothing impressive about it. bad lyrics, bad musicianship, and even Lazzaras vocals arent up to par. I beg you not to waste your money on this. It breaks my heart to give taking back sunday this review, because ive always really liked them, but its just so... bad.

obviously, you've never written a song. the title doesn't have to make sense and the lyrics don't have to be in a neat package. let me guess, you complained how on AFI's sing the sorrow, the leaving song part 2 came before the leaving song part 1. maybe the title is a line from a movie or just a clever thought or even something that happened while on tour. plus its a better title then mosh pit which you are trying to reduce it to. Lazzara does have some breathless vocals. sure they're not the forefront of the album but listen under the guitars and Fred's yells and even Lazzara's main vocals and you can hear an addition Lazzara track playing. I have now listened to the album and enjoyed and i do not hear the sophomore slump that your review has. maybe if you provided some examples i could see your point but you just said "lyrics are bad, guitars bad, singing bad" and said whats good is "a few tracks"

I'm sure I could find this elsewhere, but I'm too lazy to...but why did John Nolan leave? His back up vocals fit Adam's perfectly, and he certainly looked cooler then the other guitarist. I haven't heard anything from this yet, but I have a feeling it won't be the same, as some of you have said, as the old stuff. I don't think you can top John's back up vocals.
