When there are like 3 bands in a "genre", it isn't a genre.

When it's a not a recognized genre on the worlds biggest metal database...it isn't a genre, it's a gimmick - like how Swashbuckle is "Pirate Metal" or how Bethlehem is "Dark Metal". It's a completely unnecessary title thrown out for marketing purposes - "check out how extreme THIS band is, they aren't black metal, they are death metal, they're WAR METAL! EXTREMEEEEEE".

You're missing my point entirely - if joke genres like Pirate Metal show up there, how insignificant is "War Metal" then? It's a sub-genre of a sub-genre of a sub-genre, it's absolutely worthless and useless as a classification, it's insanely specific and pointless. I've been listening to metal for well over 15 years now, I've heard the term tossed around from time to time, but never in a serious "yeah this is a real genre and exactly what we are" sort of way. Try adding war metal as a tag here, I bet it won't show up.

This is one of my favorite Albums 2014. The Song Ending Circles from them is my fave tune 2014. Check them out. The beast and most exciting mixture of Ambient Black Metal and Post-Rock I heard so far. Love it

Combining the brazen attitude of Black Metal and sublime nature of Post rock and a condiment of psychedelic,
Deadwood is a luscious dish that effectively satiates the lust for incredible music. Deadwood certainly one
of the most ingenious releases of this year and there's not a day that goes by without listening to them.
Top notch stuff! Here's the review of Deadwood that I had written a while back -

Hello out there,
first up - a big thank you to Jason Carne for his review.
Thanks aswell to all of you leaving comments to this -
although we could go without the usual thread-bashing,
which happily enough did not escalate that bad :-)
Furthermore, we would like to thank "Postrockronnie28"
for his support. If we don't get this wrong, he's the guy
who has already written about us in another, more postrock-dedicated
onlinemagazine. Unfortunately, alleged correlations lead to
misunderstandings from time to time. Although we think that
people out there liking and even supporting our music are part
of us, he isn't actually a bandmember himself.
As most of you know, we are just at the beginning of all and/or nothing.
For the first time, we actually let others hear and see what we have
been doing just for ourselves for quite a while now.
We are curious and thankful to see reactions, and of course,
not everyone will like what we are doing. So far, we are deeply overwhelmed
by so many positive and constructive criticism we received - we would like to
keep things up and see what's ahead, grateful to everyone accompanying us.
Greetings,
Deadwood
Ps: We actually like Deafheaven very much :-)

Thanks for the response, nice to see some support for the reviewers - they take the time to do it, and are paid nothing for it. Good luck with your future endeavors...

While tolerably enjoyable, this is a far cry from prior classics in this corpulently budding genre. (See Entropia's "Vesper.") Sputnik's current aggregate rating of 4.50 for this LP strikes me as wishful blackgaze think. This is *NOT* 2014's true rejoinder to 2013's "Sunbather" and "Vesper." Miserably, RYM's current aggregate rating of 3.20 strikes me as more reflective of this LP's final grave. Bless you, Deadwood; may you rest in overly repetitive riff pieces.

1. Eleven total ratings a good summation of the userbase's opinions does not make.
2. You called the album overly repetitive and wished it rest in a final grave. And then you gave it a 7/10. lolwut?
