I can't imagine how disappointing this was for fans that actually waited so many years for these guys to reunite and release something new. Nothing memorable on this album at all. In fact, after the first half, I felt like switching it off.

All these comments really aren't encouraging. There's probably plenty of 2014 albums I should check out over this.

Actually the melodeath group on facebook wank this album quite vividly. Not as much as Insomnium, though, that band definitely rules the group.

You lost 50 street cred points Karl.

Losing street cred around here is like gaining 100 street cred in life!

Yeah. I like Melodic Death Metal and even though the hype has died, I don't think the scene/genre has. Also, this really isn't that bad once the xx-year buildup has been removed and the album is just listened to on its own. It sounds like a natural progression of where the band would have went after Slaughter of the Soul. People define AtG by that album, but forget that they have three varied albums that came before that. This release keeps their entire discography in mind.

I do agree with the added AotY baggage attached heavily with this release and I went into it with the intentions of being a potentially entertaining listen. They stripped their sound so much that the song-writing could be compared to an anorexic person eating a piece of celery and calling it a meal.

It's been dead for a long time. It's only really popular within the "gateway" metal community.

Carcass brought it back to life and Be'lakor are still kicking it, as are DT!

This album needs an actual review, not an analysis on today's melodic death metal "scene". There are some of us who actually still enjoy new melodic death metal albums, yet still spin the classics on a daily basis.

I'm not a huge fan of the mid-paced songs on this album but there are some pretty killer tracks on here. This is a decent melodic death metal album (regardless of At the Gates legacy) and the review IMO does not do it justice.

Also the bonus track "The Language of the Dead" totally slays.

New Words of Farewell is pretty good.

This album needs an actual review

I mean I could probably churn out a 2.5 this weekend if you really wanted.

I actually like the instrumentals for the most part but not so much the vocals. They kind of sound like the vocals on "The March."

I should say the lack of quality output in a genre pretty much signifies death.

And anybody calling out Adam on this review, write a better one yourself. Simply put, this was shit and doesn't warrant unnecessary fanboyism.

There isn't really a lack of quality. Dark Tranquillity alone has been churning out fantastic material in the 21st century. I guess it's just my opinion but whatever.

I don't really think the review was that great personally either.

The last Insomnium was good. Soilwork jumped back into the melodeath scene. Carcass released an awesome album. A lot of the other bands are at least solid.
