I'm actually surprised how this one turned out. Need more listens but I like it a lot more than the initial tracks I heard before listening to whole album.

I was so worried when they announced a new album that it was going to be SotS 2.0 and then they claimed it wouldn't be. Sure enough, the album comes out and it's literally regurgitated ideas from Slaughter. It has a couple of moments that are cool but for the most part, this is insanely mediocre and has no reason for existing. Hell, some of the songs even sound like rehashes of older tracks like Cold and Forever Blind. What this band truly needed for a comeback was Alf. Why would you even bother releasing a new album without the guitarist who made you interesting in the first place?

Did you give the album more than a cursory listen, XingKing? It sounds quite different from Slaughter of the Soul. Songs like the title track and The Conspiracy of the Blind certainly sound similar to stuff off of SOTS, but this album definitely sounds sufficiently different from a "SotS 2.0".

I thought the album was pretty lame myself after the first listen. It takes a few listens to sink in; it's not as instantly catchy as TSD or SOTS. Just like Tomas did in a few interviews, I liken it to their second album, With Fear I Kiss The Burning Darkness, which takes quite a few listens to "get."

Comparing this to Burning Darkness is an insult. That album is their best and should be considered their defining material instead of Slaughter. I've been listening to this since it leaked and I firmly stand by my Slaughter 2.0 statement.

I haven't listened to the entire album yet. From what I have heard so far I would say It is decent but not great. I kinda wish this band just did a reunion tour rather than making a new album.

Of course you'll stand by your statement; I've never seen anyone on this website (or, quite frankly, the internet in general) do otherwise. You also treat SOTS as if likening an album to it is pejorative. For whatever reason, it's "in" to treat SOTS as if it were a piece of shit. I'll never understand that, really.

Not sure about the digs at melodeath but I've been further discouraged from giving this album a listen.

Seeing At the Gates with Triptykon in December tho, hoping it'll be good.

Gotta love it when people claim entire genres/sub-genres are dead just because they don't personally like where they're at.

There is nothing wrong with SotS, it's a great album. But in the grand scheme of At the Gates, it was one of their weakest releases (prior to this album) in my opinion and yet somehow it spawned a million rip off bands when it's their earlier material that deserves the praise that Slaughter received.
