I wonder what this album would sound like with WWN’s production quality

Sam mentioned at some point he would love to re-record this album with more polished production but I doubt that will ever happen.

If someone said this was their favorite Chevelle album or Chevelles best album I would have no qualms with it and would completely understand why.

For me it is currently the freshest Chevelle album and has always remained fresh while every other album even the 5s eventually get old.

Albini did a bangup job with the recordings, the analog sound, the captured noises and squeals. The dynamics were well-done too. Pete’s vocal immaturity is kinda endearing, he def poured what he could on here. The Helmet/Tool influence is for sure there but they made it their own pretty damn well for young teens, like they’re better bands but they wouldn’t write something as nice as Mia or Peer. The themes are pretty neat - you got your siblings songs, a fight song, some stuff about religion, all while keeping it a bit cryptic like they’ve done since. The tones could’ve been better but they were younger than 20, I can’t fault them for growing. Biggest impression it left was like this could’ve been done by me and some friends, or older kids we saw had their own band. It definitely inspired me to start small and honest compared to the bigger bands we were all getting into.

Listened to this again in full after 6 years, sounds way better than I remember. Though maybe because I’ve grown to like the guitar tone and the t/t is still a banger
