This and maybe two other dm albums have tweaked my interest this year.
Review is perfect dude!

This sounds like absolute shit to me. The vocals are horrible and it sounds like it was recorded in a garage. It's just my opinion, but I prefer the production and sound of bands like Scar Symmetry, Dark Tranquillity, and Wintersun.

Yeah if you're used to modern melodic death like that then I'm not really surprised you didn't like this.

I dig the review. A question on the existential level though:
If a band takes old school death metal and progresses it, how is it still old school death metal? For years bands have taken the OSDM sound/values and progressed it, which is why we are where we are now. Are you praising the band for doing what has already been done?

they are pretty much on the same level for me, but are way different. Also new Swallowed is nothing special imo.

My points are more toward the OSDM revival movement that we've seen lately, where bands simply imitate the old school sound and don't really do anything new. On the other hand, death metal is where it is because of the progression beyond the OSDM sound. What Horrendous are trying to do is offer progression in songwriting while still sounding like OSDM.
Hope that makes sense.

That Swallowed album is intense as fuck.
