I gave this another shot after my not-so-good first impression. I finally upped this to a 3... intro up to "never catch me" is awesome, but it's just downhill from there.

I can see why people may cosider this his best yet. I still disagree, though.

Still, I just can't help but feel a little disappointed... All the songs I thought would be great turned out to be mediocre.

I wasn't expecting much. I mean, I saw the track lengths and I figured it would be like the start of Cosmogramma

yeah writing about how an album called "You're Dead!" has themes of mortality is so pretentious god

also, I do agree with the sentiment that he is deliberately trying to "fuck up Miles Davis" to a fault. everything here is impressive, but I can't shake this feeling that he's shouting at us "See look! I'm a jazz legend!!" I don't disbelieve him but I feel like it's shackling his work here. The album is still incredible, some of my favourite stuff from him, but I feel like he'll settle into his own identity a little bit more with his follow up to this. Now that he's done this wonderful clusterfuck, and has proven to all of us that he can, a real masterpiece could be right around the corner.

Thundercat's basslines here are SO good, really gives a new dimension to the FL sound, I hope he

continues to collab on further projects.

Edit: Just realized they've been doing collabs together for sometime now, whoops.
