I agree about some of the bass work being a bit sloppy and weird but I really like everything else.
Also, not only does Hotel Books suck mucho ass, I had the misfortune of seeing them live with So Much Light and Kurt Travis a few months back. The vocalist had to go off on a 5 minute rant about how Jesus is his true lord and savior and that is the only way to know you will be okay in life. I wanted to throw up. Fortunately, I just sat as far away as possible from the stage

A spoken word album? Man, those kinds of albums barely ever work, only time ive seen it work is when an artist blends vocals and spoken word like Say Anything or La Dispute. Also nothing screams "pretentious" than the distortion vocal style this guy has and how he tries to tease you with an actual vocal inclusion in certain tracks.

Sweet review Yak! I gave this a listen and downloaded afterwards, really good album. Not a massive fan of the vocals but they aren't too bad, and there's also this "The bass is pretty high in the mix and he goes off time or plays weird note choices fairly often", otherwise though I like it, maybe a 3-3.5 atm.
