Not only that, the whole album heh.

Yeah but King of Errors at the very least. One of the best choruses I have ever fucking heard
|
| |
I was so hooked with the chorus from "Frozen" back in the day.

-R6, of course I had to review it lol. Especially since I can actually write good things about them this time around!
-Voi, you goddamn grammar Nazi. Thanks though, I will fix those later. And yeah "Frozen" was like the only awesome song on Glorious Collision.

Stellar review. Pos'd.
These guys kept coming up on my Spotify radio, but it was only tracks from Glorious Collision. None of them left a positive impression on me, so I kept skipping them. If this entire album sounds like "King of Errors" though, I might check out. Reminds me of a more mature Masterplan.

There are a lot of similarities to Masterplan but Evergrey has way more character and uniqueness. Cheers.

Might check this out I dunno...

I think there's a lot of a focus on the vocals
and choruses, and those are the strengths of the
album imo. Tom and Danhage didn't really even
flex their muscles on the guitars. They've stuck
to the chugging riffs as opposed to some more
complex ones, which i think they should have
incorporated. The band built some really good
foundations but the flourishes on top could have
been stronger. Good album nonetheless

Agreed, the album doesn't prog enough. But I'm guessing they wanted to be cautious with the return of Jonas and Henrik. The band didn't take many risks with the songwriting unfortunately

They're good (especially their older albums) but I don't think they experiment enough to be considered the
greatest prog metal band.

Good review.
Not a genre I've ever been into but I quite liked King of Errors. What are some other similar bands?
|
| |
I've heard this is a band I should like. That album title and cover though...sounds like something BVB would come up with lol

Darkwater and Mercenary are the two that jump to mind.
And yeah album cover sucks, although I will say that for whatever
reason is looks a lot better in physical form.
|

Yeah, I really like Darkwater: http://youtu.be/F_JdFJFEHCc

So I swung by my local record store and was surprised to see they had a few copies of this in, to which I bought one of course (and drove around for 2 hours listening twice more). And I have mixed thoughts in response to Omair and Cpt:
-I agree the choruses are overused at times - particularly the title track which has no substance beyond the chorus (albeit a very infectious one).
-I also agree that a few songs in the middle of the record are "pop metal" and follow cliche structures and rhythms. Most of the record is not so though.
-I do disagree about the solos, omair, as I feel there are more solos on here than usual and they are markedly better than Evergrey's solos usually are.
-I also still find this album to be comparable in quality to their old material, and think many of the songs will have value in future years.
If I was going to be specific about my rating after about a total of 7-8 listens I'd lower it from a 4.2 to a 4.1. In sum, I still find this album to be a major resurgence for Evergrey.

Right my flexing of muscles comment was with
regards to the rhythm playing, not the solos. The
solos are really good, especially Barricade's.
And the choruses are very catchy and good. It's
just that I feel this could have been a lot
stronger. The production is good but the
Mastering volume is a little too high. It sounded
good the first couple of listens, but it's a
little exhausting in the long run. Anyway it's
mostly received an overwhelmingly positive
response so far outside of here
