for the first U2 album I've ever heard more than 1 song from, this is quite solid

The best part about this is the fact that you can still discover all their truly great albums. I envy you, friend!

U2 is the biggest and most important band of the past 25 years. It is quite impressive that they are still releasing music.

I'm a pretty hardcore U2 fan. And still this comment is funny to me. You do realize that there last really, truly great album "Achtung Baby" is from '91 and "The Joshua Tree" is way older than 25 years. They peaked a long time ago and are definitely not the most important band of the last 25 years.

@RadicalEd:

I stand by my statement, but I would like to hear what band you think has been bigger or more relevant in the past 25 years at U2's level.

Read an article about a trending twitter topic of youth not knowing "who the fuck U2 is" or why they've just somehow ended up on their iTunes libraries and iPhones. Very similar to how they didn't know who Paul McCartney was when he performed at the grammys in 2012. Yikes.

also, 1000th comment!!! does this mean I'm legit now?

U2 blows, so imagine my shock when I found this album had suddenly teleported its way onto my iPhone music.

I cannot argue with Twitter trending topics. I am more interested to know if the album actually suddenly appeared in everyone's library. Is that even legal?

I liked the album pretty well actually. Better than "No Line On Horizon" by quite a bit in my opinion. And also, one thing that was very interesting about this release is that it was given free to all iTunes users! So I got a great new album from a great band for no charge. I love "California (There Is No End to Love) & Iris (Hold Me Close) the most so far!

Yes, the album suddenly appeared in everyone's library, but honestly, it just blows my mind that a good chunk of the internet has the audacity to rage at the fact that U2 imported free copies of their latest album into everyone's iTunes libraries without their EXPLICIT CONSENT.

And meanwhile, the rape jokes continue on Facebook, Reddit, and 4chan. Ugh.

Didn't like "Iris" so much - can never stand the chorus - but "California" is definitely a great track.

it's ironic really. few want to pay for music, yet when they're given an album completely free, they complain.

Probably it is not a big deal in itself, but it is one thing to offer the new album for free (which most people would most likely accept anyways), and another one to force the album into everyone's library. Does that not mean that I do not have complete control over my library/device/whatever? I do not have iTunes, but I can easily understand why people could be upset.

I enjoyed my first listen of this, but I can only laugh when Rolling Stone gave this 5 stars.

"I really don't have any interest in listening to this. I might force myself through it sometime since it's free."

Don't fall for their shitty trap.
