I've always been in the minority on that one I think

the lyrics and guitar playing are great of course but it just kinda goes nowhere. it's a slight anti-climax to the record imo, needed a change-up middle section a la How Near How Far to become the classic it wants to be

but w/e this is a 5 I'm nitpicking

"Baudelaire is probably the only weak one on here, and even that one rocks pretty hard"

not sure why this is seen as their magnum opus. thought Madonna and Worlds Apart were both better.

I remember tao of the dead not being that bad but I can tell why this is their most popular. the production has a certain palatable sound to it.

i have yet to listen to Tao in full, but the few songs i did hear from it i thought were better than anything on this.

the low-ish averages for everything but this confuse me in general. band seems real solid.

I’ve never thought this was vastly superior either.

Their debut is pretty underrated but I think most of the ratings for this band are accurate

the low ratings on that one mostly come from the shoddy production I would think. the remaster from a few years ago is actually excellent but it went way under the radar

the production isn't even really that bad by this genre's standards, but yeah the new one ruled

eh the vocals sound awful (and barely audible) and the mix of the instruments is all whack. definitely undercuts the atmosphere they were trying for on that album
