First time I heard this record it took me a long time to pull myself together. Almost every song is a small musical cathrasis that all blend into one of the finest record this band ever recorded.
It's just so damn good...

Nice one Vortex.
First time I heard this one was summer of 1999, a year after Theatre of Tragedy's Aegis, two years after Paradise Lost's One Second (these guys again influenced a large number of bands with their shift in sound) and a year after How to Measure a Planet? by The Gathering. I expected these guys to change too (I remember reading an interview where they stated than recording A4 wasn't a positive experience) but still I was slightly underwhelmed. Listening repeatedly to it though, I loved it just because of the cathartic feeling you write about. Wings of God was (and is) such a deep experience.

For sure. This one along with A4 and Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here are three albums that I kinda avoid jamming unless I am sure that I'm in a good place.

Man all these great albums coming out one after another, the late 90's was truly something for atmospheric gothic/alternative rock.

The '90s was the greatest decade of all time agreed

Absolutely. And you had all these bands trying to experiment and incorporate different elements to their music which made everything so exciting.

My heart says '90s but my mind says '70s dude. No way I can decide.

I come back to this album when I'm feeling at my most desperate. It never fails to deliver every time.
One of my favourite albums ever. A true masterpiece.
