I remember recommending Peter Gabriel to my friend who loved a lot of interesting, eclectic music, especially from the ‘60s, and he made a face and was like really? Who did Sledgehammer, Steam, Digging in the Dirt, and might’ve even known Kiss that Frog… which was kind of infuriating to hear and reminded me how Peter Gabriel’s one of those brilliant artists who has like half of their most popular songs being pretty unrepresentative of their music overall.

Digging in the Dirt and Steam are fine; I just feel like he's made so much other more emotional, unique stuff overall. Sledgehammer is okay but kinda goofy, easily the weakest on this album and it's the smash hit. I just hope people who only have a passing knowledge of Peter Gabriel don't think of him as like a Phil Collins or mid/late career Sting.
Yeah Us is actually very good. Opening three tracks, Washing of the Water, 14 Black Paintings, and Secret World are all great. Basically the deep cuts. Kiss that Frog is a career low point haha
